We are considering a Star Wars cruise, but would like a bit more information about them.
Do they include the pirate night? Is there anything on a normal non Star Wars cruise that is missing on the Star Wars cruises?
Can anyones children participate in the Jedi Training Academy? Are the classic characters still available?

Those cruises are "Star Wars Day at Sea", meaning the last sea day (currently Thursday) is a dedicated Star Wars Day with characters, activities, special guest speakers, themed food, and a show and fireworks at night. On this years sailings, there is a pirate night with fireworks. The other days are the same as other cruises, with the exception of having at least 1 Star Wars movie in the BV Theater each day. Other Disney movies are still playing throughout the week, as with all the normal shows in the WD Theater, themed nights, other characters such as the big 5, princesses, Anna and Elsa, etc.
Early on in the cruise, each stateroom is given a sheet to fill out with your preferences for the special meet and greets on SWDAS, which includes the Jedi training for children 12 and under. You rank your choices 1 - 5 and are given 2. If you want your kids to get Jedi training, it is recommended you rank this as #1. Other M&G's include the droids, Chewbacca, Darth Vader, Kylo Ren, and Star Wars Rebels. There are Star Wars themed activities for families, in the kids clubs, in the teen club, and throughout the ship.

As an alternative to that, the 4-nights on the Dream also have a Jedi Training going on, which is first come, first serve right now.

I'm very fond of Star Wars. Some of the other cruisers, not so much. There are a LOT of Star Wars activities happening during the SWDAS. You might find this stressful if you are in the not so much category. Otherwise, for the remainder of the cruise it is exactly the same as a non-SWDAS cruise.

Does this man you have no chance to do the other 3 options that are on this sheet?

you can get two experiences - its up to you to rank them in what you would rather do, so no, you would not get to experience all 5 of them.

Ok thank you for the information.... I wasn't sure if it was set up like a Fast Pass kind of thing and that they would have stand by lines for each option if people wanted to or were willing to stand in line for the chance for meet and greet or whatever the experience.

no these items are like the ticketed princess M&G's. Other Star Wars characters appear around the ship randomly and you can get pictures but not those 5 activities.

I just thought I would pipe in about your question about the classic characters. We just returned from the SWDAS western sailing a few days ago. My son and I both love to meet characters that we haven't met before. The first day at sea, we met new classic characters all day long. Not only do they have the typical Mickey characters and cruise pirate characters, but they also had The Queen of Hearts, Joy, White Rabbit, George from Monsters, Needleman from Monsters, Boo from Monsters, Sully, Pinocchio, Jiminy Cricket, Max, Geppetto, Jesse, Buzz, and so many more! We were very pleased with our Monsters Inc monsters that we didn't even know existed! We also had a princess meet with a few new ones for us, and we met the Frozen ladies as well. We also met many Star Wars characters during SWDAS as they walked around the ship, but they do not always stop for pictures and they do not sign autographs. My oldest and I had a great day together as my husband and youngest son sat around the pool and the deck all day. :)

We also loved just wandering around the ship on SWDAS. It was as much fun to see the other guests in costume as to see the "real" characters. We also enjoyed the Star Wars music playing throughout the ship.

There are no stand-by lines for the additional M&G. However, it might be possible to get extra tickets the morning of SWDAS by going to Guests services. Not all of them sell out. The availability of the Jedi training depends on how many kids (mainly boys) there are onboard. Last week, we had a very full ship and some kids couldn't get the Jedi training. You can still go watch one of the sessions without participating. We went to an earlier showing to prepare our son, so he wouldn't be overwhelmed during his own session.

Thanks for this great summary! I have two questions - do you pick activities for the stateroom or each person? We only have one under 12 so do we all get Jedi training as a choice even though only one can do it? Also, is Jedi training just like the one at HS?

Yes - per stateroom. Each stateroom gets the sheet on the second day. Yes - though it takes place on the stage in the Walt Disney Theater.

You receive one ticket per activity per stateroom. I don't know how they handle Jedi training if there are multiple kids in the stateroom, but for the M&G we got, we gave the ticket at the entrance and the entire group went in.

Thank you for this! So exciting!
I was also going to ask; what's the minimum age for the Jedi Training? I believe at DHS it is 4? (Have never seen it!)
Does anyone know?
And does this take place during the day, or is it part of the dinner show that night?

It's 4-12 yo. It takes place over multiple sessions during the day, at the WD theatre. There are six sessions between 8:30AM and 2:30 PM (starting times - it lasts about 45 min). You need to show up in advance because they give each child a certificate in his name, put a robe on them and classify them by size. The time is assigned by DCL. You can't just show up to participate, but anyone can go watch the show. We found the crowd was composed mainly of family members and not many uninterested onlookers.
