Are they the same kind of simulated, sit and watch kind but feel like you're there, kind of thing?

Actually they are very different in that ST is stationary, SoC actually lifts you into the air. SoC is darker and more immersive, and creates more directional "feelings" that the "straight onto Endor" ST.

Soarin is also more "gentle" even though you're 45 feet in the air!--there's quite a bit more bumping around in ST, even though it's stationary.

BTW--my Mom has a fear of heights but she LOVES "Soarin"--

Lets put it this way: I don't do Star Tours anymore, but Soarin' is my current favorite ride. It is truly breathtaking.

I LOVE SoC, even though I close my eyes for part everytime. I'm slowly working my way towards seeing the whole thing! What are the seats like on ST?

They are definately a lot different. I must say though I do love them both. ST you don't really at least I don't get a breath take away sort of ride like I do on SOC that is breath taking in my opinion.

The seats are just seats, with lap belts. It's as though you are passengers in a small space cruiser, and you are looking forward at the pilot and out the front window of the spaceship.

It's a motion simulator, so it dips and banks turns, it shakes, it's FUN. IMO. And I want SO much to know how they make the feelings so real, b/c even when I close my eyes (to check if the feelings of, say, falling, or accelerating, are just created with an optical illusion) I can still feel those motions. Oh to work behind the scenes for just a day on those "vehicles"!

I first went on ST during a visit where I was dealing with a MASSIVE FEAR of coasters (after two years of re-discovering my LOVE of coasters). I blame being put in the front seat of Space Mountain; I couldn't get my fear-brain to shut the heck up, and it ruined the coasters for me that trip. Last, or second to the last, day of our trip I went on ST and fell madly in love. The feeling of the coaster without the "danger"! Lovely!

ST is more of that hug the arm rest and omg what is next type of ride. while SOA is more of a "wow i'm flying" this is just amazing kind of thing. I love them both. Do them both!

ST makes me sick to my stomach so I only do it occasionally but it is fun. It is a motion simulator and you jerk around and rise up in the air but it's very bumpy and jerky, it has actually induced migraines on me because I wasn't relaxed enough.

Soarin' is smooth and sleek and so much fun!!!!! I have a major fear of heights but Soarin is easily my favorite DCA ride. :)

VERY different! Star Tours is and older simulator that can be a bit jerky and cause motion sickness for some and Soarin' is a row of seats lifted above the ground and tilts smoothly side to side (depending on which scene you're in) and feels very relaxing.

You, too?! I didn't go on Space Mountain for years because I went once with my day camp and I got squished my humongo counselor. That plus loud music and fast dips and drops made me freak out. I still don't like "real" roller coasters but that comes from a bad experience when I was 6 and went on Montezuma's Revenge at Knott's Berry Farm. BAD, BAD IDEA!:sad2:

Yeah, the fear after being in the front of Space just knocked me out, emotionally. I *know* that I'm in almost no danger. I also *know* that if there were something horrible that happened up ahead that I wouldn't be the only one hit by it, so it didn't matter that I was in front. But I desperately wanted those heads in front of me so I didn't feel so alone!!! And I was alone, b/c it was just the three of us and DS refuses to believe that he *could* go on if he wanted to, so hubby and son were elsewhere.

I used to love coasters, then I hated them b/c they messed up my spine, and then I loved them again, until that Space trip!

It doesn't help that I can't see in the dark at all. I had Lasik done in '00 and it was a huge mistake. I have NO night vision, and spots of light in the dark mess up my eyes even more than seeing nothing. bleah

But I love both Soarin' and Star Tours!

Star Tours is old and worn out in my opinion. I don't ever go on it. It was very cool back in the mid 70's but time has passed it by. Time to update and upgrade it or put somthing else in.

An Updated Journey to Inner Space would be my vote.

Star Tours definitely makes me sick too. I like Soarin'. Soarin' is smooth like you are flying.

I have to admit I am the biggest wimpy chicken ever on rides--but have ridden both. Star Tours scared me more and jerked me around alot. I didn't really enjoy it all that much. Soarin' gave me this incredibly feeling of flying that didn't scare me at all--despite my massive fear of heights. I loved every second of it and giggled all through it with my daughter. The first time I went on it was just last Dec. (the last time we went to DL)---and so I passed on it due to fear for many years. I am so glad I went on it!

I wouldn't mind going on Star Tours again if my whole family wanted to go on it, but I cannot wait to go on Soarin' again.

I love Soarin'. I thought ST was alright but I also felt it was outdated and I don't imagine I'll do it again unless I can walk right on and DH and DSS really really want to go on.
