Not sure if there's a thread here for this yet or not.

A first look at a new droid, R2-MK, with Jedi Mickey can only mean that “Star Wars Weekends” at Disney’s Hollywood Studios is around the corner. But today, were looking even further ahead in the galaxy to the “reimagining” of Star Tours at Disneyland and Walt Disney World resorts. Scheduled to open in 2011, the power of the Force and the magic of Disney once again will combine to create an all-new Star Tours. When it reopens, it’ll feature a new 3-D, immersive experience that’ll take guests to familiar places in the Star Wars galaxy. To prepare for the reopening, Star Tours will close at Disneyland Park on July 27 and at Disney’s Hollywood Studios on September 8.

If you’d you like to take a last daily express ride to Endor, make your plans to visit the parks before the closing dates. And as we announced last week, there will be a special “Last Tour to Endor” party on August 14 during “Star Wars Celebration V” in Orlando. For more information about “Star Wars Celebration V” and to purchase tickets, check out www.starwarscelebration.com.

Thanks for sharing! Glad I got in so many trips to Endor on my last Park visit; can't wait to see how the 2.0 version shapes up!

I am so sad to see the original version go, but really hope to enjoy what is to come. Thanks for posting the info! :)

We will just make it! It looks like we will be in DL on July 23. I have been riding this ride since I was DS14's age, so it's a piece of Disney nostalgia for me. Glad we'll make one last trip to (almost) Endor before they start the reno.

Hmmm ... Hadn't thought about the possibility that this could make the lines really long if Disney promotes the closing dates heavily. I've practically walked onto it the last couple times. Although it's worth it with the great stuff to see in line.

Oh poo! DN wouldve enjoyed that on our October trip. Hopefully they'll still have the Jedi Academy going on.

I am so happy I have two trips to DLR before the closing date! Yay Me! :cool1: I am such a huge Star Wars fan... it is literally the first movie of I have recollection of seeing. In fact I am such a Star Wars nerd, I have a big bright red Star Wars tattoo on my arm, as some of you have probably seen in my TRs. (At least the ones I completed.)

Star tours was also the first thrill ride I ever went on... so there is nostalgic sentiment there as well. I did not realize it was closing so early, I was really hoping it was gonna be open until October. Oh well. I will have to make my peace and so good bye to an old friend. :lovestruc

I had read previously that they wanted to coincide the opening with the Little Mermaid Attraction. But I could be wrong on that.

Thanks for sharing. We'll be taking our last flights next week. A little sad, I've been riding since this first opened at DL but I'm exciting for the new one too!

Any idea when it will open in 2011??
Star Tours 2.0 is rumored to re-open on May 10, 2011.

That's according to MP's weekly update (link):
"Our source tells us that [Star Tours] is scheduled to reopen on Tuesday, May 10, 2011. As with any project of this nature, expect the end date to slip a few days in either direction."

God no! This looks like JUNK! I don't want them to change the current ride. The one now has all the classic FX from the original trilogy! That's what Star Wars fans LOVE! Not the prequel CGI crapola!

Them changing Star Tours is an absolute travesty of epic proportions! I actually feel sick! I wouldn't mind it if they gave us the choice, as in which one we wanted to ride, ala: "Side A - Star Tours to Endor" & "Side B - Star Tours Pod Racers". But this is just a complete farce! Them getting rid of such a classic ride is an abomination!!!! :furious: :headache:

After all, everyone prefers the original trilogy to the prequels. :sad1:

Yippee - we'll have one more chance to see it before they close. I was a little concerned because on mousesavers it was listed as already under renovation. Whew!
