I was reading a guidebook for visiting WDW with kids (even though we have taken them 2 other times) and it notes that Star Tours isn't recommended for kids under 8 because it is too intense.

On our trip in May, DD will be 4 and is 40" tall and so far loves thrill rides. (We live near Sea World and Six Flags in TX and she definitely is a thrill seeker.). DS will be 7 and though he is a little more cautious, he loves Star Wars.

Anyone have their child not like Star Tours at these ages? Should we skip it or give it a try?

I would say try and get your kids interested in star wars before you go. Then they're more likely to want to ride and enjoy it when they do!

Hoping my 5yo twins will want to ride when we go but I totally get why it might be too intense. They have watched videos on YouTube of all the rides and that helped them see they aren't scary :)

It is one of my 5 year old DD's absolute favorite rides, and she doesn't even normally like thrill rides or Star Wars. I think I'd throw out whatever guide book that is! ;) As far as your 7 year old, maybe what I told DD might help. DD wanted to try Star Tours, and DH and I said okay but we figured it would not go well because she absolutely hates all roller coasters, and splash mountian right now. I told her that while it would feel like she was moving and flying, the vehicle she was in wasn't really going anywhere. It was sitting still and just bouncing up and down and rocking a little to make her feel like she was moving. That completely made her feel safe and did the trick. She got off, and immediately insisted on getting in line to go again. I think we rode it 4 times that day.

My DS turned 4 10 days before we left for Disney. My husband wanted to take him on Star Tours and I told him no, I'm too nervous. Further in the trip my husband said he was going to have him try it and my son LOVED it! He ended up doing Star Tours 3 times in a row! Now my 4 year old is not the adventurous one. He didn't like the "dark" rides. But be careful...my house has transformed into Star Wars! Darth Vader shoes, blanket, big tent..:lmao:
Give it a try! I was nervous about the motion sickness more than anything.

My ds did it when he was 4 (the older version) and had no issues at all. He did the "new" one when he was 6 and was just fine again. I don't think it's too bad. DH on the other hand is not a fan. It makes him nauseous.

Too intense? Depends on the kid -- but if he loves Star Wars, give it a try. My daughter knew little to nothing about Star Wars and at the age of 5 loved the ride -- although she thought Yoda was a villain.

My kids are 7 & 5. They both love it. It's not anywhere near as intense as Spaceship Earth!

I have to admit that I, an adult, was nervous about Star Tours! But the "ship" is not cramped by any means and the action, if it became too intense, is avoidable by just looking down at your lap or the floor. The movement itself is not that bad. A few jerks and feelings of acceleration.

We all loved it and rode several time because my son desperately wanted to be the rebel spy! And he's not even a big Star Wars fan.

Our just turned 5 year old loves it! Second only to the buzz lighyear ride in his eyes!

This is just the opinion of that guide book's author because I have never heard of any age recommendation for any ride from anyone particularly Disney.

I take that back, at one time there was a not recommended for under three on Maelstrom.

Oh and my then 4 year old DN loved ToT. Rode it as many times as they could run around and get back in line.

Thanks everyone...I think they will do fine...or at least we will give it a try. Their favorite ride at SeaWorld is Journey to Atlantis and DS absolutely loved Splash Mountain when we were at WDW when he was 4. I don't think either have been on a simulator but we might try watching a video on YouTube before we go.

I haven't been on the new one, but based on the old one I would say that anyone that can handle Journey to Atlantis can easily handle Star Tours unless they have motion sickness.

Our daughter turned 5 on the trip, and she loved it. She's a huge Star Wars fan, though. She still talks about the ride...how funny it is that C3PO is such a bad driver, etc.

Star Tours is a great ride for the kids. My 8 and 5 year olds loved it. The simulator is very mild in its motions overall and the scenes were nothing you wouldn't see in the movie.

I would highly recommend the Jedi Training as well. Need to register in the mroning as the groups are limited in size. Kids get to train and fight Vader. MY son did it twice. We had some really great photos from this too.

We went last summer & it was one of the favorite rides for my 3yo daughter & 5yo son. They both love star wars.

My girls love the ride. It's different now, but they loved it as soon as they were tall enough to ride it. :thumbsup2

They are 7 and 9 and they are looking forward to see how it's changed when we go back in March. It was closed on our last trip.

Every kid is different, but I think that "8 and over" is a bit excessive. My youngest has loved it since she could get in...

I'm reading the exact same guidebook and was surprised to read the "8 and up" recommendation. My almost 6 y/o is just starting to get into Star Wars and was really excited about this ride. I'm happy to hear it is not as scary as the book says!

We took the 4 yo Granddaughter on it last December. She's a pretty big scaredy cat but she loved it. So much that we rode it 3 times.
