Stainless Steel Water Bottle - Where to Pack?

I'm thinking of taking stainless steel water bottle when I go to WDW this year. I was thinking about it the other day, and wasn't sure where I should pack it. I thought that if I pack it in my checked bag, when they xray the bag and see it, I'm sure they'll open the bag and go through it. Would I be better off putting it in my carry on and having them go through that bag while I'm standing there?

I haven't flown in 10 years, so this whole new way of flying has me a bit confused.

TIA!

I have had my stainless steel water bottle in both a carry on and a checked bag and neither have been checked. I'd pack it where ever you think it fits best. Have a great trip!

Your bottle might look suspicious under the xray machine. I have had similar items cause me to have my bag searched. When I have items such as this and don't want to take a chance that my bag will be searched, I put them in my carry-on and take them out when going through security and put them in a bin for xray. I have done this with a corkscrew which doesn't have a knife but which TSA always wants to look at and last week, I had a can of wasabi peas which I knew would look suspicious if I left it in my bag. No problems.

I always bring my kids stainless steel water bottles for the flight. I leave them empty til we clear security, they I fill them up at a fountain. Never had an issue.

I would do this as well. Then I would just ask for a water as a beverage on the plane to fill the bottle. It makes it so much easier to have a non-spill drink.

Thanks for the responses. I'll put it in my carryon. I'd rather avoid having the TSA go through my checked bag. I read about someone's jeans not making it back into her bag after TSA went through it, and I'd rather not take a chance on losing something.

Canned peas (OK, I know they are special peas) might raise the suspicions of an airport security screener. What have we come to?

I also had a jar of Ovaltine packed in a carry-on once, which caused me to have my bag searched at the Halifax airport. Apparently round cylinders can be a red flag.

I had a tin (similar to the old fashioned metal band-aid tin) of sewing supplies - small spools of thread and a couple of sewing needles, safety pins, buttons, etc. - cause my bag to be searched at Charles De Gaulle. They kept asking me if I had meat packed in my bag. They thought the tin was a tin of meat. Once they opened it up and saw it was a sewing kit, they let me through.
So it might have to do with checking to see if you are bringing foreign food items on a country's restricted list.
As far as water bottles, we have taken them through security - we have the lids unscrewed and I put them in the bucket with our shoes. I feel that makes it easier for the TSA to see what we have and with the lids off, they can look inside them. After we get through security, we put them back in our suitcase or fill them with water to use on the plane.

The poster 'knew' the can would cause a problem in her/his checked luggage, although doesn't explain how that was known. At any rate, taking the can in carry-on luggage resulted in zero problems.

Preemptive strike: these are not U.S. airports, and the people who stopped these posters are not connected in ant manner with the TSA.

How in the world did pp "know?" It sure isn't on the TSA website.

It's kind of silly that we trust the very people that do this kind of thing

A Dominican Republic-bound JetBlue flight made a U-turn and headed back to Kennedy Airport after the pilot discovered a scamming TSA screener had sneaked aboard, The Post has learned.

to perform body searches and look for "poop bombs." If only the link, and not the photo shows, the picture is safe for viewing - nothing "dirty" . . .

BTW at CDG, you get to keep your shoes on . . .

ETA - I never thought I would say this, but . . . Go Texas!
