We're looking at places to stay on the Gulf Coast for a few days in our October trip and want to try the St Pete's Beach area. Does anyone have any feedback on Madeira Beach (or anywhere else along that part of the coast), please?

We would prefer somewhere with access to the intra-coastal waterway as well as the beach, and prefer quiet and laid-back rather than all-action. Maderia Beach sounds as though it would fit the bill, but I'd be happier if I had heard from someone who'd actually been there - or could suggest an alternative!

In the past we have enjoyed Estero (Fort Myers), Lido Key (Sarasota) Crystal River, Port Charlotte, Sanibel and Captiva, but were less impressed with Naples and Cape Coral - if that helps to give an idea of what we're hoping to find!!

Thanks for any help :)

Hi Hilary

I have to confess that I am a bit of a "flag waver" for Treasure Island - just south of Madeira Beach. We have been going there almost every year since 1991.

Like you, we prefer a quiet beach holiday and TI is just that. Lovely long, wide beach with many of the motels/hotels situated beachside. There are a number which are situated Bayside with access to the intra-coastal. A good selection of restaurants for the evening and within walking distance from the majority of motels.

We are planning to go back later this year (not booked yet) and will try for Beachside Palms where we stayed in 2008. A small complex of 5 or 6 apartments situated right on the beach.

Give TI a try! If you need any more info just ask.

We love St petes Beach, quiet and relaxing.
but any where on that side of the gulf is nice, just a matter of choosing a resort you would like.

Thanks for the input :)

Will check out the info on Treasure Island :thumbsup2

Anna Maria Island is the best beach in Florida in my opinion and we have been to Clearwater, St Pete's, Captiva, Marco Island, Sarasota, Naples, Miami, Fort Lauderdale, Palm Beach, Boca Raton, Daytona and Cocoa.

In a way it's a bit of a secret so don't tell anyone. :lmao:

It is the perfect place for doing nothing.
