THANK YOU to all of my wonderful DIS friends. I just got home from the hospital after Bob being in surgery for over 3 hours and my being up at the crack of dawn to go downtown for my annual mammogram.
Good news on both counts. The mammogram was perfectly clear and no sign of the cancer returning (so four years since my cancer surgery and all is well!).
Bob did NOT have to have any part of his intestine or bowel removed. The doctor scraped away a lot of the scar tissue, mended some of it, unwound the intestine that was slightly wrapped and removed the mesh netting in his stomach. He had this mesh netting from his double hernia operation in 2004. Because he has lost over 250 pounds since his heart problems a year ago February, the mesh net had no where to "stretch and stay attached" and therefore unattached and was sitting in the middle of his stomach and caused the intestine problem. Unfortunately, he will always have scar tissue which occurs when you have any type of stomach surgery and there is no guarantee this will NOT happen again. But the problem has been rectified and we can only hope and pray that it does not occur again.
He will be in the hospital anywhere from 3 days up to two or three weeks until his bowel is functioning the the draining has stopped (he has two drainage tubes in his stomach). Once home, it will be six - eight weeks before he can lift anything over five pounds or do any excessive exercising, walking, etc.
I'm going to try to check a couple of threads and go to bed...I'm exhausted.
Thank you all again for the prayers and the hugs. Love you all.
