Oh, (((Kathy))). This is awful! Why in the world would the insurance company not pay for something like this? Fingers, toes and eyes crossed for you. I refuse to consider the trip not happening for you two - seems for many of us something arises during the planning that will appear to keep us from going - you have this happen more than anyone, I think! Far more often than not, Tink's Dust comes through and all turns out well. I trust this will be case for you & Mark.

The girls opened their Valentine's gift tonight. They were so excited by all the goodies!! You and Mark are so very generous. Thanks you so much. I have pics to send you as soon as I get new ink for my printer. Am still praying for good news on the roof.

Sorry I've still not replied to everyone.

We have calls in to three different roofers--a lot of people having roof problems so hard to pin someone down to come out when we are home. Now on top of it my brother is in the hospital (almost a year to the day that he was admitted last year) and I am dealing with that as well.

Thanks for all the concern guys...I appreciate it.

No need to apologize Kathy! Boy it sounds like you have a lot on your plate right now, I'm so sorry. I hope your brother is alright and will be home soon from the hospital. And that you get that stupid roof fixed!:thumbsup2 Hang in there!!

 So sorry, Kathy. Why does it seem like life saves up all the bad news and then gives it to us all at once? I'm thinking of you and hoping that all turns out well. Happy Valentine's Day!

Wow... now I see why you needed a smile! Hugs to you and will be praying for you and your brother!

Man, when it rains it pours! I am thinking good thoughts for you and your family!! Maybe since so many people are having roof issues, it will be covered under insurance!

I am so sorry about this, Kathy! Wish I could give you a hug in person, but in the meantime, this will have to do!

Do you have home owners insurance - aren't they supposed to pay for something like this?
I am really, really keeping my fingers crossed for you, so this will be sorted out and NOT make you cancel your trip! :grouphug:

Oh no! I'm sorry to hear about your ceiling water woes. I hope it doesn't turn out to cost as much as you fear.

Kathy we have the same problem with 2 windows in the kitchen and bathroom !!! Judy and I spent this morning knocking down icicles and using the hair dryer to melt the ice in an attempt to stop the leaking around the windows !!The kitchen is the worse !!We are praying ,it doesn't get worse and we have major repairs to do !!This has been a HARD winter :sad2:
I am so sorry for you I hope your homeowners will pay for it !!

Congrats for the boy's wrestling win.

So sorry for the roof issues. Hopefully homeowners will be able to cover it but it does stink that real life is intruding on vacation plans.

:sad2: I am so sorry to hear about the water damage. If it is due to the snow...I wonder if your home owners will deal with it. I know ours would not deal with a "slow leak" since it was considered a maintenance problem rather than an "accident". Weather related should be an accident. I will keep my fingers crossed for you! I really would hate for you to have to cancel a trip.

Oh, I'm sorry to hear about the leaks. I hope the repair won't be too major and that you'll still be able to swing coming to FL.

First of all you are in desperate need of a couple of these:hug::hug::hug:

I hope this insurance company comes through for you....I want to cry for you:hug:

Oh no Kathy :sad1: I hope your insurance will cover this. I have a roof rake that takes the snow off....haven't used it although I know I should :rolleyes I know when all of this melts it is going to be a total mess :headache:

Hope it all works out for you :hug::hug:

Tracy

I am so sorry Kathy. :sad2: I am sending good thoughts your way that the insurance company covers the repairs.

Thank you all.

That is so sucky!!! I am so done with snow. It hasn't been a fun year! I am crossing my fingers that the insurance will take care of your roof, you are definitely in need of a vacation!

I am only going to think positively and pray really hard that your insurance will cover this. I hope the damage does not get any worse and you will hear good news from the insurance company soon. In the mean time

Well, congratulations for this!

And several of these :hug::hug::hug: for this. This winter has been hard on so many people. My mom and aunt have both had leakage in their houses. I think the only reason our roof is holding it together (ironically after all that we went through last year) is that there are several layers of roofing material up there. I hope your homeowner's covers it and/or the repairs won't be so costly. Why do these things happen? Why? Why?

I truly hope and pray for everyone's sake that the worst of this is over! And here's one more for good measure.

Oh no! Kathy that's awful! Keeping my fingers crossed that your homeowners insurance covers it and you don't have to cancel your trip.

I'm so sorry Kathy. I hope your insurance will cover this. Why does something like this always happen to you when you have a trip planned? I'll be praying for you guys.. :grouphug::grouphug:

Oh Kathy! I hope you called them and someone is coming out today to investigate. Ideally they actually bring/send an expert (Civil or Structural Engineer that specializes in water intrusion/building envelope, also called a forensic engineer), not just the adjuster, to look at it. This is exactly the kind of work my company does (investigates) to determine where/why the failure occurred.

Given the number of locations and the timing, that sounds like a snow load failure which would be covered. If you've had no other indicators and given how widespread it sounds, that doesn't (on the face of it) seem like improper maintenance, which they will deny. You need to get something in place asap to prevent further damage which they should help arrange, point you in the right direction, even if it isn't covered.

How old is the roof?

All my fingers and toes crossed for you.

sorry to hear about the roof, hope things work out with it.

Ugh! That's awful. I'm sorry to hear that, and I hope this works out.

I have no idea if you have companies like this in Chicago, but a couple of years ago we needed a new roof and got it for free. There is a company that put on a roof for whatever the insurance covered and then for the deductible we had to keep a sign in our yard (with the company name) for a couple of weeks.

I hope you find a good solution quickly!

OH, Kathy! NO, NO, NOT!! I'm sick for you and wish I could drive over and sit on your couch and cry with you. ON the upside, it may not be quite as bad as it looks now. PLEASE do keep us posted on this! And be like a rabid pit bull on your insurance company. They don't want to pay, but should!

So sorry to hear about your roof. I hope everything works out for you with the insurance.

I hope everything works out okay with the roof.

I've been hibernating for awhile - but wanted to pop out and send you some I hope the roof situation works out. Several years ago we had been thinking about re-roofing, but hadn't made that final decision to do it. That summer there was a hail storm. We didn't think that insurance would cover the roof damage since it was needing replaced before the storm. They did cover it - where we got lucky was there was a bad spot on the overhang that was totally unrelated to the hail and they told us to go ahead and have that taken care of too. I have been very happy with our insurance - we had another issue happen on vacation - should have been two seperate claims that they told us to combine so we would only have one deductible. It's Disney related - the first "claim" was my husband had his big camera around his neck, went in to the caves on Tom Sawyer's island and walked right into a wall and broke his lens. The second issue was on the way home we stopped in Nashville. We had a rooftop carrier on top of the van, in it was dirty laundry, beach towels, and other odds and ends.....nothing flammable (yes, flammable) About 2:30 in the morning we got a call from the front desk that our van was on fire! Well, it wasn't the van - it was the carrier - so there we were in the wee hours of the morning with sopping wet, singed and burnt stuff all over the parking lot. We stuck it all in garbage bags, had to go buy another rooftop carrier (got a soft sided one this time) and shoved everything in so we could inventory it for insurance. The agent let us claim the camera damage on that claim. The camera itself wouldn't have been worth turning in because the deductible was about the same price as the repair - or at least the estimate to repair, but by adding it in with the fire it offset the cost. I think the insurance adjuster felt bad for us!

Kathy just read your mention about your roof. I am so sorry to hear the news  I hope you guys are able to work this out with a minimal expense OOP and your insurance is able to help cover the damage.

Thinking of you and Mark through it all...
C

Oh no Kathy! I'm so sorry to hear!:hug: Have you called your home owner's insurance yet? We had a similar problem about a year ago and they sent an adjuster out lickety-split. It was a good opportunity for us to renovate the upstairs bathroom anyway and the insurance check helped. I hope it doesn't put off your trip! Hmmm, maybe it's a sign that you should move to a more sunny climate, like say, Orlando! I'm sure Nicki would be happy!
And congrats to your Markie!:thumbsup2:goodvibes It must just warm your heart to see your son excelling at something he loves so much!:goodvibes

So sorry about your roof!!! I hope everything works out and you get to go on your trip, hopefully the insurance will take care of everything

This is actually a tough question, because it can be yes or no. If the roof is leaking because the shingles are old and worn out, then in most cases, it will not be covered. It would be considered a maintenance issue. Example would be on a new car, you have a warranty on the car but it will not cover for wear and tear items like brake pads or wipers. However, if this is a loss because of wind tearing the shingles away or ice dam backup then she will have no problem getting everything taken care of minus her deductible.

@ Kathy. I'm praying the best for you here. If you have any questions about insurance hit me up with a pm. I spent over 10 years as a claims adjuster for a very large insurance company and currently for the last 6 years own my own insurance agency.;)

Bob

Oh no!!!!!!! I hope that lotto win or the insurance comes though. Give us an update when you can.

I'm thinking it is DEFINITELY that dam ice, or ice dam.......whatever you said!!! Go with the one that pays off for you Kathy!!!

Hi Kathy,

I'm super late, but I am here.

I've got my fingers crossed that insurance pays for your roof.

Sending hugs..........

Yikes Kathy. Just checking in and read all about the roof woes. That totally stinks. I really hope everything is working out for you and you are able to get the repairs covered.

On a happy note - Congrats on the Wrestling championship!!!!! That is really an accomplishment!

Fingers crossed for the insurance as I too have ice problems this winter and the ice build up at work is horrendous !! It has to be weather related !!!

I am crossing my fingers for you!!! QUOTE]

Hi Kathy, Just sending good vibes your way! Hope you're doing well!

Thinking of you and sending lots of pixie dust so that your roof "issue" will be solved soon!

I am praying for your brother. Hope you get good news about the roof soon!

Thank you all. The people on the DIS are the best!!!

The roof is in limbo for two reasons: it's been difficult to get anyone out because of the bad weather and others having any problems more severe than us so we've not been able to get anyone to come out when one of us could be home and because my brother was admitted to the hospital yesterday and that has to be our number one concern. Luckily, we've had no more issues with water spots since everything has started melting with the warm-up in the weather.

As many as of you know, my brother was severely ill exactly a year ago with congestive heart failure and weighing over 475 pounds. He is now down to 235 pounds and has been feeling great. The heart will never be 100%, but he is eating right, excercising, lifting weights and walking four miles a day.

Yesterday he was having severe abdominal pains and was taken to the hospital by his friend. He has an obstructed bowel and is still in severe pain.l They have a tube in his nose to his stomach to try to flush it out. It doesn't seem to be working thus far. If it is not better and working by tomorrow afternoon, they will schedule surgery.

The poor kid has been through so much. He lost his job January of 2010 (right before he went in the hospital with his heart) and has not been able to find one because he doesn't have a car. He has no insurance so they are hounding him for over $200,000 in bills from last year and my mom pays for his medication every month because he doesn't have a job (and she can barely make it on her own living on my dad's pension and her social security). He is very depressed and I just feel so bad for him. I'm hoping he won't need surgery because this is just going to add to those bills.

So I apologize for not being here on my PTR and a lot of your PTR/TR's...I'm just trying to deal with all of this with my brother and take care of my mom in the process.
