Pretty bummed.Booked with points for christmas at AKV ---THRILLED.Also wanted cash reservation for summer but could only get SSR.Should I just forget it and book a package at a mod or deluxe through central reservations or travel agent. Then the tickets would at least be included.Thought about buying AP's.for christmas, thinking I would use them over the summer.Just afraid that I will hate it,or there will nothing for my 5yr old to enjoy.

Why can you only get at SSR for the summer??

DId you not have enough points for somewhere else or was that the only DVC available for cash reservations? I find that hard to believe with it being so far away. We stayed at SSR this summer on developer points (our home resort is BLT) and after reading bad reviews we were alittle nervous, we really really liked it. Our 4 year old girl and 1 year old loved it - the pool is great for their age. It is actually better then a lot of the other pools onsite. You should request the Springs section- we loved being really close to the main pool and the food court. Good luck!

Im saving my points for christmas so Im paying cash.I was on the phone with reservations who quoted a price but by the time they submitted my request my 1BR savannah was gone----------that quick.

Every resort has it's charms, what you typically do with a 5 year old at AKV, you can do at any DVC resort, SSR included, other than watch the animals. They have a nice pool, they have planned children activities, its a nice resort, it may not be your favorite but it still Disney. Are you saying that they are only offering SSR for cash next summer? It's a long time away and I can't imagine that theya re that booked so far ahead!

I too am surprised that on a cash reservation this far out that only SSR is available. That being said we stayed there this past April. It was not planned, but a late date change left us no choice. We too were a bit nervous having read mostly poor reviews. We took a look at the resort map and requested Congress Park. This is probably one of the furthest points from the main area, but it is also within walking distance to DTD which is why we picked it. At the time our 2 boys were 3 and just shy of 7. We stayed in a 1BDR and had a water view which was really nice at night (overlooked the West side). We were pleasantly surprised and would not be disappointed in the future if we stayed there again.

I think some of the complaints involve the resort not being as "Disney themed" as other resorts. But for my part, after an entire day of DISNEY!!!!......that can be a really, really good thing. :thumbsup2

We stayed at SSR this Sept. and our four y/0 loved it. Pool and kid activities, bikes, DTD, etc... Every resort has its appeal and appeal more to some than others. This site is long on information and on opinions (not that that is a bad thing). A little salt is sometimes in order.

Where are all these "poor" reviews so many speak of about SSR?

The only negative reports I have seen are from those that have not yet experienced SSR but comment on all the negative reviews!

This idea that there is something wrong with SSR is really getting to be a living legend. It looks like your unshaven brother-in-law in flip flops, a baggy plaid bathing suit, with beer in hand and cigarette hanging from his bottom lip. It just keeps walking around WDW with bad breath whispering to those that have not yet had the pleasure of staying at SSR. It never goes home.

Geeze Louise!

Too funny!!! OMG, does not ever end? :confused3

A little OT BUT I'm heading to WDW for a last minute trip next week to visit my WDW CP daughter. There weren't any DVC studios to be found for Sat/Sun nights. But for Mon/Tues I had a choice of SSR/OKW/AKV. Of course, I booked SSR and my DD works in AK and wanted to go to SSR.
I'll take pictures of what is available for children and the peaceful grounds.

I just bought direct from Disney, and was given the choice of four resorts, BLT, AKV, SSR, VGC and went with SSR. I have been looking at purchasing since SSR was brand new a few years ago. We went with SSR over all the other ones for a few reasons. The resort looks very nice, MF are low, THV, and right next to DTD. I toured the resort with my guide and really like the place. Our first trip we are staying at AKV but our next one will more than likely be at our home resort. The pool looks really neat and I'm sure that our kids will love it.

Not sure why people look down on the resort, it is very nice. :confused3

IMO, it's a similar complaint people have about OKW, SSR & OKW are too far from the parks, they have no food courts blah, blah, blah. Frankly that's why I love them both, after a full day of beating the parks, I want a get away. Some prefer the hotel feel of AKV (Jambo) WLV & BWV, I prefer parking my car in front of my villa and I love being close to DTD.

Let them keep complaining and staying away, more availability for us!

We have stayed at SSR twice and BLT once (our home resort). We really enjoyed our stays at SSR and would not hesitate to stay there again. The grounds are absolutely lovely. It has such a peaceful setting that you can just feel the stress melt away once you arrive. In the summer, walk over to DTD to get a sundae at Ghiradelli's - yum! The pool at SSR is fantastic and the community hall offers many activities throughout the day. They also have a very good selection of DVDs to check out (BLT's selection was just pitiful. CM said that they had not had time to build their inventory yet.) I say go for SSR, you will not be disappointed.

we have stayed at SSR 3 times its our home resort and we love it - we have just booked for next year and were a little worried incase we couldnt get our home resort and they offered us elsewhere. We just came back on sunday and this time had family with us inc an 18 month old who LOVED grandstands pool /playarea. We dont really do the park although family did and found transport fine, we love the convenience of DTD walking to all the food shopping options.......... just wish we could be there longer than just 1 two week vacation each year!
