So we've decided to brave the crowds of Easter week and take the kids down for Spring Break. (They will be 4 and almost 7 at the time of travel.) We've decided to do a 2 bedroom at either OKW or SSR, for a number of reasons. Most importantly, we figure we'll be spending more time in the pools than we usually do (and less time at the crowded parks.)

We were wondering if anyone had any insight into which of these resorts might be better for us than the other? We know a few things:

OKW villas are much bigger, with a nice size patio for eating outside.
OKW villas are also older than SSR, and (in our opinion) it might show.

We guess it comes down to the pools, and which resort's might be less crowded and/or more fun.

Any thoughts?

The Grandstand pool at SSR is nicely themed quiet pool for kids. It has a spray/play area for them to use. It also has a pool bar with a mug refill station. The main pool is a zero entry pool and has a squirting Donald Duck figure kids like.

OKW pools are nice as well, and with little kids you may really like that extra space the rooms have. One drawback though, most buildings do not have elevators so be prepared to climb steps. At least SSR has elevators in every building, making it easier to tote the kids and their stuff.

Someone posted pics of the Candy Scramble they held on the lawn at SSR last Easter that looked really adorable!

SSR has the themed quiet pool with splay area at Grandstand and the main pool has a slide. There are also 2 Victorian Dollhouse playgrounds at SSR, 1 at the Congress Park Pool and 1 in the Paddocks. The CP pool is really nice too.

You will have larger living space at OKW, but as posted, not all buildings have elevators so that is a definite consideration for us when our kids were small.

I love all the flowers at SSR in the spring. :cloud9:

For some reason the only thing I can think of is having an Easter Egg Hunt. For that reason alone I would go with OKW. The landscaping is lusher and there are more places to hide eggs. If you have to hide them inside OKW has more room and the balcony. LOL - I'm not even sure you are planning on hunting eggs, but that is what I thought of

Hi - I have not stayed at SSR but... We stayed at OKW in January with our girls (ages 8 & 11) and loved it. They had a great time in the game room/community room which is located right next to the sandcastle-themed main pool. There are also many smaller community pools scattered throughout the resort (hint: make sure your room is not right next to one of these pools as it was noisy at night - if you are not next to one you will be fine). They showed movies on a huge screen poolside every night. The kids were able to watch the movies in the pool!

Don't worry about the stairs, please. They were no worse than the stairs we climb several times a day in our home!

We had never stayed at a DVC resort until we tried OKW and it will be difficult to go back to a regular room now. LOVED the space in a 1-bedroom and having a washer/dryer is priceless. Now we are seriously considering becoming DVC members b/c of our experience at OKW.

I think (based on pictures I've seen) that while OKW is a bit older it is more charming than SSR. I am from NJ and the atmosphere I guess appeals to me more than SSR b/c it feels like you are on a tropical vacation.

Oh - if it makes a difference - you can take a boat from OKW and SSR to Downtown Disney - the boat ride is longer from OKW (which we enjoyed b/c we love boats and having a longer ride was great for us).

Good Luck and have fun planning your trip!:woohoo:
