Is there a number for the SSR Spa to make reservations yet? Also, is there a site somewhere that shows the available treatments?

the website at disneyworld.com will also link you to a site called
www.relaxedyet.com. I have not looked at it, but it might let you make ressies. From what I understood is that the SPA is a contractor that sets up at GF and SSR.

yes unfortunally Niki Bryan has taken over the spa :(

Can you elaborate on the "unfortunately" portion of your last post? I am clueless as to what that could mean.

Thanks!

Just made an appointment for when we're there in June. The treatments seem kinda expensive, so we're just going for a hydro massage. If we decide we want regular massages or facials, we can go to BWV VWL or BCV and get them a lot cheaper! At least we'll get to check it out and use the sauna and whirlpool tubs.

Also, I didn't see anything on the DVC website about a discount, but we're getting 20% of at SSR. She said it was available only for certain treatments, but I didn't ask which ones.

What it means to me is that the wonderful service that we used to get at the Disney Institute Spa will now be the same as the medicore service offered at the Grand Floridian Spa.

This is another thing that Eisner is into, having someone other than Disney offer services on property. Unless you had gone to both, you might not notice the difference. But if you did, the difference was there.

What is mediocre about about the GF spa?

The treatments were similar it was the level of service, it was just not Disney and it showed.

Well first they are overpriced!! I don't pay that much money for a snotty teenager to be rude to me!!

I chose to get a spa treatment locally before I left on my trip last year. First, it was cheaper. Second, it didn't want to "waste" any park time on spa treatmenst when I'd be thinking "I could be on Splash Mountain right now. Third, it "extended" my vacation. I have a tendancy to get really stressed in the pre-trip dash and since our plane left at 5pm.... well, it sure was great to have that day to be pampered. I was sooooo relaxed, the hubby and kids appreciated the difference! The only thing different I'd do would be to schedule another after the trip! ;)

I agree. Get the spa treatments before you trip. You do extend your trip, you look great going to your destination and you don't waste time or money. The local and NYC spas are great! Disney Institute was nice, but I will not patron GF or SSR. The service is not as good, the products are pushed and I'm not into that when I am being spa'd.

Got a day of beauty from Hubby for Mothers' Day. Plan to use it the day before our trip. :smooth:

I have had a couple of very good experiences at the Spa at the GF. I found them to be very professional and the prices in line for what I pay for the same services at the spa up here.

Now that I am a DVC member and go down 4 times or so per year, I have no qualms about taking time out of my day and visiting a spa onsite. One of the reasons I go is to have some "girl time" with a friend that lives in another state and meets me at WDW.

I did call and make our appointments for our SSR trip in July.

Before we did our DCL trip, I also booked a spa day at home. Our DCL trip was only the four day, and I had better things to do on board than spend time getting a facial. It was cheaper (a lot!), I had my pedicure done so I looked good in my sandals walking on the ship, it extended the vacation by a day.

But Pinnie, it sounds like the SSR spa will be great for you - spa girl time is like no other girl time. Certainly, a lot of people think we are nuts for paying Disney rates and taking a day to golf!

The prices are nuts. I just was on a weekend vacation to a Gulf Coast casino and got my wife a aromatherapy massage for Mother's Day and paid $95 with tip, $80 plus $15 tip. $125 is whack.

Of course the wife will still want to do it when we go on our trips to SSR, and that's cool, but still the prices are high.

Do we get a discount as DVC members?
