Just got back from a day at Disney and hit a snag. We left TL to head over to SSR and use the showers at the Spa. Now we've used the showers and lockers at the Spa during past trips without getting any spa treatments. Today, the desk clerk at the spa told us that it was $12 per person to use the locker rooms without getting a spa treatment! She said that it was in the February newsletter (I'm assuming she meant the Disney Files) that the charges were enacted on 1 March.
Well, no point in arguing but we hadn't read about that. Our original plan was to shower and change out of swimsuits, then go out to dinner at one of the park or resort restaurants. Instead we just went home. So instead of getting their $24, Disney lost the $100+ we would have spent on drinks and dinner and some waiter lost a tip on what was probably a slow evening. Great way to spread the "magic" eh?:headache:
When we got home, I dug out the spring Disney Files and I can't find a single sentence in there about the SSR Spa locker policy changing. Has anyone else heard of this? Did we just not get that memo?

There were quite a few discussions of it much earlier in the year, here on the boards.

It is not "Disney" that would have gotten the $24, the spas are private businesses that have leased space at the resorts. If you were a businessman, and paying for leased space, should you allow non-customers to use your facilities for free?

And OP, what do you mean by you went home, were you not staying at SSR? You couldn't shower in your room? Or was it your last day and you had checked out?

There are now lockers downstairs where there is another (No cost) shower.

A "day at Disney"? I don't get it either. Always thought that to usie the facilities at a DVC resort like that you're supposed to be a guest staying on points.

We haven't done a water park yet, but it's on our list. Does anyone know if there are changing rooms at the waterpark that can be used after a day there?

There certainly are showers and changing rooms at the water park. It's more public than the locker rooms at SSR. Plus they don't have the fluffy towels, shampoo, soap, razor, etc available at the water park.

OP, you were not entitled to use the spa locker room at all for free.
