We are going to stay at SSR in a 2 BR unit in October. I have no clue as to what type of room view, etc. to request...does anyone have any suggestions, i.e. are there rooms with views that would be better, that locations may be preferable? Please give me your opinion!

Thanks!
Joan

Since its not opening until spring nobody would have 1st hand knowledge. We were at WDW at Christmas/New Year and looking from DD I think that would be a great view. You would see the lake, fireworks and the lights from DD.

I booked a 2 bedroom unit for October and I asked for a 1 bedroom and studio combination (which you can also do as a 2 bedroom unit) because I am going with my wife, my mother and her friend. I had also asked for a second floor or third floor facing Downtown Disney. I had also requested non smoking rooms too. I have heard if you request the view of Downtown Disney you will get to see the fireworks too. There is rumors that they are supposed to have a fireworks show for people who stay at Saratoga Springs and that is why they are building a fireworks viewing area. You can pretty much request anything to make your stay more enjoyable. Alot of people are also requesting non handicapped rooms because people don't like the roll in showers for the wheelchairs and they said that the water from the shower gets the floors wet, but the rooms are not any different other than that aspect. When I made my reservations and I requested what I did within a week I had received my confrimation letter with everything I had asked for listed on the sheet. Usually they will tell you they can't guarantee evey request because they get so many, but I have never really had a problem and they are very good with taking care of my requests. Good Luck!

IIRC, all of the rooms in the first four buildings have only DTD views - and that's all that will available until Bldg 5 opens sometime in 2005.

As to the fireworks - I thought that Pleasure Island already hada nightly fireworks show, and that the SSR FP was build to watch that. Any idea if they are adding/enhancing them for SSR?

Yep...that's what I thought, too.

The SSR Fireworks platform sits lakeside facing the PI area and will have a great unobstructed view of those fireworks. No information has been released suggesting that there will be any additional fireworks for SSR guests. I'll just have to set the alarm for midnight and go down to the lake to see the fireworks ( ... or just watch from the balcony ... or just pull the covers back over my head and enjoy the sleep! :smooth: )

Is that true? So the buildings are being constructed with a hallway that only has doors to rooms on one side of it?

I know that I've read it several times here on the DVC board. So either it IS true, or I've started reading and believing my own posts! ;)

I wouldn't count on ALL units in the first 4 buildings having a DD view. While the buildings all generally face DD, there are units on 3 sides of each building. Depending on the angle of the building to DD, there will definitely be units w/o a DD view.
Using the old semi-truck sign "if you can't see my mirrors, I can't see you", you could say, "if from DD, you can't see the units' balcony, then that unit doesn't have a DD view."
Building 1 has 8 units on the end that generally face a canal, and the check-in and main pool area beyond. From these units, at best the only view of DD will be the Cirque parking lot, and that would be while standing on the balcony.

I agree with John- All of the villas in the first four buildings will have a lake view and the majority will also have a view of DD, but there are some (especially the side of building #1 towards the golf clubhouse) that will not be able to see DD- but will still see the west side parking lot near Cirque.

These rooms won't be able to see the DD fireworks from the balcony.

The rooms on the lake side will be able to see at least some of the DD fireworks.

Taken from behind the PI- West End Stage- where the fireworks are staged. (This is building #1- if you can't see the balcony- you won't see the fireworks!)

Enjoy!
