DH and I will be spending a couple of days at SSR at the beginning of March. He is going to Daytona Bike week and I am tagging along for a few days. How close is the walk to DD from the resort? Is there a boat to take you across? I will probably be alone most of the time (DH riding that Harley Davidson!!) and am wondering if it safe to walk there alone at night. I always feel very safe on WDW property and have walked alone from MGM to BWV at night.Any thoughts on this? I will have a car but the parking is such a hassle at DD. ::MinnieMo

Just guessing here -- but odds are you will be in Congress Park area of SSR. We just returned from SSR yesterday and took the walking path to DTD one evening with DD5 in tow. It took all of 5 minutes from the closest SSR building. The pathway is very well lit.

There is a boat dock but it's pretty far away from the villas themselves. The dock is just past the entrance to the golf clubhouse. From the villas themselves, it's probably just as far of a walk to the boat dock as it would be to take the walkway directly to DD.

Unless you just want to go for a boat ride, you're better off just walking to DD. The path from SSR brings you into DD right by the main bus stops.

I too woudl suggest walking to DTD. It is only about 5-10 minutes depending on your starting point. I know that in the summer the boat was not the best choice, long waits. I am not sure if this is no longer a problem.

We've stayed at SSR twice - May and December - and we've walked to DTD quite a bit. We've always felt safe - even staggering home from PI at the outrageous hour of 11PM ;). One thing to note, though; the path from Congress Park to DTD does run along the edge of the resort, right next to a road (Buena Vista?), right before you get to DTD.

ITA that the walk from the CP area to DTD is probably shorter than the walk to the docks. I suspect that the boat will be the preferred choice, though, for The Springs and The Paddock buildings that are farther away from Congress Park.

Sounds like I will feel just fine walking back and forth. I almost always do the walk between BWV and MGM (boat is just too slow) and I don't think that is as well lit as this walkway sounds. If I stay out to 11 pm it will be a first (except for the Red Sox World Series at ESPN.....the best time I ever had at WDW!!!). ::MinnieMo

Oh wow, I would've loved to watch us win the World Series at ESPN! That must've been a great time, great atmosphere. I was just happy we finally won, even though I was home in my living room and not at ESPN! lol.
