This August will be my first stay at SSR. We usual stay at our home VWL or BCV. This is a last minute trip and SSR was the only location available. I have tried to research locations but I'm still confused. The property seems very large and i would like to request a room close to one of the main pools and a bus stop. Sounds like there are several bus stops. Which stop is the first and therefore less crowded??? I'm traveling with another family and this is their first trip. So, I would like to make it special for them. I don't want to pick the wrong location and have to walk a mile to the pool and have to wait for several buses to get on one. The new pool looks awesome. We would probably like to use that one. Is this a good location? Any advice and/or tips for this SSR newbie would be much appreciated. Thank you!!!

Request a room in the first Grandstand building next to the pool. It is close to the first bus stop in SSR, next to the Carriage house (2 minute walk), has a nice pool with kids area for water play, hot tub, snack bar w/ adult libations.

Makes me want to go now . . .

Thanks Dizny Dad! If I were to stay in the grandstand area, how far is the walk to one of the larger pools with the big slides. I have a feeling that my son may drag me there. We were looking at pics of the new Paddack pool and he was very excited about that slide. Hopefully it will be open by Mid August. I've read that it should be done by mid July. Thanks again.

We recently stayed in Congress Park. It was close to the bus stop. I think that it was actually the last bus stop, but we never had any problems, even to make rope drop. We had our car, but still rode the bus most of the time. It's great to let them do the driving an drop you off at the gate.

It was close to the High Rocks pool, and Artists Palette so very convenient. It was also very close to Turf Club and the boat dock to DTD. I thought it was great.

Only bus that seemed difficult was for the THVs. They had to ride a bus from THV to the main stop and then transfer. Best of Luck. You'll enjoy SSR.

SSR is one of our Home resorts on our very first stay we were placed in the Paddock section and with 4 kids we loved it. Ask to be close to the new pool and near the bus stop...the CSR;s are very helpful. It is a larger property but beautiful! I now always stay in Congress Parl section as we are now with all college agers (we come down alone most of the time) we like to use the quiet pool and walk to DTD!! Good Luck and enjoy SSR.

Thanks for all of your suggestions. The property looks huge when looking at a map but how large is it really. Lets say I get "stuck" in a "bad" area. This is a last minute trip so I may not get what I request. How long does it take to get from one end of the property to the opposite end. Are we talking a 10 minute or 20 minute walk? Thanks again.

You didn't say when in August you'd be traveling but I believe the new pool in the Paddock area is due to open mid-August. You should call to confirm. Also, with DVC, I've always checked in early -while the room is not usually ready, I can usually get a better choice.

The bus stop order at SSR is: Grandstand, Carousel, Paddock, Congress Park, Springs. No matter where you end up if you don't want to walk to the main area just hop a bus and the last stop before leaving for the parks is the Springs.

Since you are interested in the new Paddock pool then I'd make that the request.

Have a great trip!

The pool at Paddock is scheduled to open July 3, so Paddock would be my request.

I really don't think that it matters when you book your room in relation to if they are able to fill your request. My understanding is that about a week out they assign all the rooms. I don't think that they look at booking date as part of the process, but I could be wrong. Luckily, all the areas have their own positive aspects. Just keep your request to be more generic and you will have better success. For example, you'll have better luck asking for any room in Congress park, with Springs as your 2nd choice, than if you request a 4th floor room in Congress Park with a DTD view. Accept what you get and enjoy it.

Paddock would be my request!! Can't wait to try out the new pool. It is a minimal walk to the main building from this section, or as already stated, pick up a bus and get off at the Springs bus stop.

My last stay wa at the Springs and i was directly next to the large pool with the slides, the carriage house, bus stop and restaurants. HERE IS THE DRAWBACK

LAST STOP ON THE BUS

But weigh the pros and cons i would stay at the springs again very convenient when you are at the resort. Went every morning to get my coffe in my mug and didnt fear i would miss the bus.

SSR is our home resort, and we absolutely LOVE :lovestruc the place! We have stayed in the Springs, Paddock, Congress Park and Treehouse Villas and did not have an issue with any of them in terms of bus ride or walk to the main building. Springs is closest to the main pool, game room, and main building, but is the last stop on the bus in the resort. Paddock is about halfway for all categories. Congress Park is same as Paddock in my opinion, but you get the added option of having a room that faces the lagoon and Downtown Disney, which I liked.:thumbsup2. My favorite of all of them was the Treehouse Villas, but they are more than likely booked by now. The treehouses had a private pool and were nice and shady. Drawbacks were you had to take an internal shuttle to catch a bus to the parks, and it was a long walk if you wanted to go to the main building (or again take internal resort shuttle). Once you get the hang of it the transportation for the treehouse was not an issue, and we really enjoyed our time there!

Hope this helps! :cutie:
