SSR is for 50years?

If you were to buy at SSR now and receive 50 years of use, does that mean that you will be able to use any of the DVC resorts for 50 years or just SSR and the rest of the resorts only for the remaining 43years?

The older resorts (with contracts ending on 1/31/42) can only be accessed until that date. SSR owners lose access to those properties in 2042 along with the actual owners of those resorts.

However, any future resorts added to the program with later ending dates will be accessible to SSR owners up through 2054.

I think you are likely to see a stoppage of swapping into and out of SSR and possibly for all resorts a couple of years before the end.

it is a strange situation. We joined OKW early, and will get nearly 50 years from our contract, plus we got several years of free Park tickets and cheaper prices than buyers later on.

The new resorts are really nice, and I enjoy staying at them, but I think the early OKW owners got a pretty sweet deal! Our first week in a Grand Villa all but paid for our original "buy-in". I'll be pretty old in 2042, but I should still get plent of year of kids and grand-kids use before then.

I have a question out of curiousity after buying into SSR - since all other DVC resorts have a 2042 end date, does that mean that those who bought into DVC later down the road after it started got a break in price do to them not getting the full 50 years?

When we originally joined DVC in March of 1992,we paid $52 a point. When we added on to our contract a few years later, we paid $54 a point. I don't recall hearing anything about a discount for those coming in later..... but I could be wrong. It's just that we never heard of any kind of a discount, they just contacted us at different times when there was going to be a price increase so that a person could get in at the old price. Someone must know for sure.

No, so far the price just keeps going up as the term winds down.

Actually, only the very early owners at OKW got a full 50 years (some even got slightly more than 50). Anyone who has purchased since January 31, 1992 will not get a full 50 years- INCLUDING new owners at SSR. Since SSR doesn't open until May 17, 2004 and ends on January 31, 2054- even the first SSR owners will not get a full 50 years. ... and the price keeps going up!

Of course, the same goes for SSR. It will take a few years at least to sell the entire resort. So someone buying in 2 years will "only" get 48 years of use.

And they will almost surely be paying more per point than SSR buyers are today.


Now you can see why the most common regret among DVC owners is that they didn't buy sooner!!
