We are staying at SSR this Thanksgiving and excited to take the whole family to WDW for a week. We booked SSR but were hoping that our wait-list would come through for BWV or VWL. After speaking with member services, it sounds like both of those are fat chances to come through. I'm not really "fired up" about staying at SSR. We've never stayed there (only Jambo AKV and BLT) and I don't really know what to expect. I could use a little encouragement.

the way i see it, you will be together with your family to celebrate a great holiday that embodies the very essence of family and you will do it all with the great backdrop ofwdw - i wish i could gather my family for such a celebration.

ssr is our home resort and we love the sophisticated atmosphere of the rooms, the lobby, the spa, and the fun atmosphere of the high spring pool and activities at community hall. in nov you will also be able to enjoy the foliage of the northern plantings throughout the resort - a real feeling of the fall.

if you wish to share a little bit more about the cast of characters that will be travelling on the trip, maybe some others can share more details about a good section to request for your room so you can be close to the action you can find at ssr.

There is an SSR Lovers and Owners thread about half way down the page. It's all about how great SSR is. Good luck.

DH and I stayed at SSR in June and loved it. It was a last minute trip and the only studio we could get. So we felt similar to how you do going in......The resort is beautiful. I liked the theming, it seemed very upscale. It felt very relaxing to us. Not in-your-face WDW, but hidden Mickeys! Pretty fountain views from our studio. We had a car, so did not care about bus stops. We also made use of the spa, I highly recommend it! We used one of the smaller pools, but the main pool looked like a lot of fun for the kids. We also liked the food court....it had some very good options for lunch and seemed quieter than other resorts....maybe smaller? DTD is a central location, so you will not be far away from most of the parks.

So enjoy your trip. It will be a deluxe room in a lovely resort at WDW!!!! How bad can it be?

I'm sure you will be happy at SSR. SSrR is a great resort and so close to Down Town Disney. Enjoy your vacation.:cool1::banana:

We spent 3 days there the end of our trip last year-incentive points for an add-on. We liked it very much! Great pool, nice places to eat-the boat to Downtown Disney was fun. We looked around the resort before we left and decided if we come back we would stay in the Paddock area-great views, beautiful landscaping. I could easily see us staying 10 days one winter when we are retired. Very relaxing. I think you'll be surprised how much you enjoy your stay. Turf Club would be a great place for Thanksgiving dinner!

You will have a great trip. SSR is one of home resorts and still our favorite DVC resort. You will appreciate the peace and quiet, away from the parks that you get at the resort.

We feel/felt that way for our upcoming last minute stay. But, for one, I'm glad there is a resort that seems to carry some sort of availability all the time to allow for last minute getaways.

We, too, will have a car. We feel that its "on the edge" of the resort location might actually get us to venture off property once in a while. Probably not (though we are going to the beach one day).

I think DH would like me to keep calling to see if anything else has opened. I'm being stubborn about it for a couple reasons. First, I've gotten used to the idea, so would like to stick with it. Second, it is forcing us to stay at a different resort. I may be happy when our "first choice" doesn't always work out (as long it does sometimes). Otherwise we'd never stay anywhere else.

I'll let you know how it goes. We leave on Friday.

This will be our 5th Thanksgiving at SSR. It's our favorite resort for week long stays(other than VB).

We will also be there at Thanksgiving and was just wondering if any of the Christmas decorations are up at the resort at that time?:goodvibes

This thread is making me feel better about our upcoming September trip. We always stay at BWV but this year we used point to celebrate DD's college graduation. Needless to say, we didn't have enough to stay at BWV. I am pretty upset about it, but all these good words are making me feel a bit better!!! :goodvibes

They usually have the tree up in the lobby, they don't have a gingerbread house like BW or GF.

When will the new slide/pool be ready?

Request close to main building/pool.

:) I think SSR is very nice. My MIL have been there for the spa and just remember how large the resort was...in a good way...everything was very clean and the "condo feel" makes it seem more expensive to me. It was very quiet, very quiet, the day we were there. At the time I did not realize it was DVC. I enjoy looking at it while we are at DTD....pretty as a picture. As the previous poster stated. It is Deluxe...it is Disney...

Plus all my Dis friends talk about how good the food is at Artist's Palett at our meetings.

Be very EXCITED! SSR is beautiful, and as others have noted, upscale but with a relaxed feel. We love it, DH and I switch off between SSR and BWV. For longer more relaxing trips we plan for SSR. Enjoy!:cool1:

Spring of next year. I'm hoping it will be open for our may trip. It's going to be a great addtion and really look forward to having another option when trying to decide what area we want to request.

I'm taking my kids on a surprise trip in late September (MNSSHP & WWoHP)and we'll be staying at SSR for the first time. I booked it last minute and it's the first weekend of Food & Wine so SSR was the only thing available. I'll admit, at the time, I wasn't thrilled with the idea of SSR because of location. However, now that I've had time to think about it, I'm really excited about the opportunity to stay at a resort I wouldn't normally choose.

You'll be with family, during the holidays at WDW. No matter where you stay, you will be making magical memories. Have a fabulous trip! :wizard:

Interesting! We booked just a 2 night weeked for this weekend! We leave on Saturday AM (5:30flight:upsidedow) and DH was the one who was satisfied, and I called to try to change, but couldn't and now, I'm not just resigned, I'm happy. :goodvibes Today MS mentioned that SSR was fully booked as was the rest of DVC for this weekend. I'm thrilled we got a room!
