My parents have surprised us (My family of 4 and my brothers family of 5) with a 7 day EC cruise in early May of 2011. We originally had plans for SSR in Oct. of 2010. We cancelled our trip in Oct. and decided to treat the 11 of us with a 3 BR GV at SSR for the 5 days prior to our cruise. I have never made reservations for this kind of room before. At 11 mo out, are they relatively easy to get in early May or should I be concerned and think of creative options? And what is this call day by day thing I've seen?

Thanks

SSR has 36 grand villas & for early May it should work out fine calling first thing in morning on day 11 month window opens.

Day by day that you're thinking of is known as walking a reservation, in other words, if you wanted to check-in May 7 you'd call 6 days earlier on May 1 to book for 7 nights & so day you actually need the GV reservation to begin would be the 7th day on this reservation, then next day you call MS again to drop May 1 & add May 8(the second night you'd actually need the GV), repeating this drop and add process again following day, etc. until you have 5 consecutive nights you need booked.

Best wishes, it sounds like a wonderful family adventure :goodvibes

I've booked SSR Grand Villas for Thanksgiving at the 11 month mark the last 2 years with no problem with only one call, so I don't think you would need to walk the reservation for early May.

Thanks for your thoughts. I really appreciate it: Sounds like I shouldn't have a problem :yay:

I would seriously rethink 11 people in 1 grand villa. I just did it two weeks ago, and I have never had so much stress in my life. I would go with 2 - 2bds personally.

But in regards to booking a grand villa, we booked at AKV jambo house which only has 4. I called 11 months to the day that we wanted to get, and I had no trouble. I would imagine you would not need to walk the reservation.

We don't have that many people in a GV, I can imagine it would be stressful with full capacity.

We're staying at SSR before our early may 2011 - 7 day EC cruise too!

Are you on the May 07th sailing? If so, there is a cruise meet thread you may be interested in. :)

YES! We are on the same cruise! I will have to check out that thead.:thanks:

About the room, We are having 6 adults and 5 kids. My parents are going to universal one day with my brothers family and DW one day with my family. My brothers family is actually going 2 days to universal amd we're going probably 4 days to DW. I don't know if we are really going to be doing too much together or seeing that much while we are there. What exactly are the problems or stressors you've ran into that I should be concerned with? It may change my plans for a GV.

Thanks! My DD wanted me to put this here------->:cheer2:

i've been told in the past that if you want a Treehouse or Grandvilla to call right at the 11 month mark...so that's what I would do, just to make sure you get it.
Although the points are cheaper in 2011 to get 2- 2bedrooms than to get a grandvilla or you could get 2- 3 bedroom treehouse villas if they allow that.

Hope this helps you out.

WOW! I would not have thought to even look at a 2-2BR at SSR. AND that it would be cheaper than a 3BRV! I'm glad I asked you guys and gals! THANKS! Maybe I will try for the treehouses!

One factor is "total unit occupancy" vs "logical sleeping arrangements." My immediate travel group of 11 could not possibly work in the GV. We are four households, 8 adults, 3 children. When we travel together (at least once or twice each year), we typically book four units (or something equivalent to a GV + 2BR) to give each household sufficient privacy.

I don't think you should have a problem getting a GV at the 11 month mark for early May. My family booked a GV for the end of May - begining of June 2010(memorial day weekend), and we called in January. I couldn't believe they still had any available at 5 months out. They said they actually had a few left.
