I am getting ready to book a reservation 7 months out for the week of Christmas. I’m wanting a studio for 3 nights but plan to book a 1-BR at SSR if one is not available. How important is it to book the 1-BR at SSR right at 8:00 ET? I’m thinking there might be some moving around at the 7 month mark and maybe some studios will pop up shortly after 8:00. The reason I’m asking is because I will have to borrow points for the 1-BR.

If you call MS, they might be able to let you know how limited inventory is.

There is a way to use developer tools but I can never get it to work as I am not tech savvy!

But, Id still go on at 8 am to check things. Maybe book two nights, so you don’t borrow and then check back a little while later and if nothing popped up, book the third night?

I know how to use the developer tool and could tell you what the inventory is but the site is down at the moment ...

I have a 1 night waitlist for a 1BR preferred at SSR for a Monday in December (December 7). I missed the 8am window by a little over an hour at the 7 month window due to a work committment and it was gone. Fortunately, I was able to get online on the 8th to grab the next 3 nights of our stay and, miraculously, a standard 1BR popped up for the 7th and I grabbed it. Apparently, it was the last one because it immediately disappeared. Now, I have the first night (the 7th) in a standard view and the next 3 nights in a preferred view. I really hope that the waitlist fills because we are arriving on the 6th and staying off-property. I really don't want to switch rooms 3 times in a 5-night stay.

This is only the third year that I have booked in December, but has it always been this way? Has SSR needed a waitlist at the 7-month window for a 1BR?? This seems crazy to me! I know that the first two weeks of December are the most in-demand DVC weeks on the calendar, but I guess I never realized that a waitlist would be needed for a 1BR at SSR:scared:. We must have been lucky last year when we got three nights at OKW (went on the waitlist in AUGUST!) and the year before when we got three nights at BRV (no waitlist!).

Christmas week is not as hard to get as first two weeks of December. Nevertheless there is a some risk that you will not be able to get an SSR studio or 1BR at 7-months out. Currently both SSR studios and 1BRs are open for all of Christmas week and for all days from Dec 18 until Christmas week. What you might want to try is a walk. Today, book as many total days for a studio that you want starting Dec 18 and then daily redo the reservation by dropping the arrival date and adding an end date until you get to the dates you want.

Walking works best at 11-months out because any SSR owner could book the days you want before you can do so when doing a walk at 7-months out. However, when we have reached this close to Christmas week, the probality is that the vast majority looking to still book Christmas week are those who can only book a resort at 7-months out, and walking may actually work when you are this close to the actual days you want.

No need to do anything. Patience and lots of refreshing got me a studio. But it was good to see that several 1-BRs were available for peak Christmas season.

First two weeks have been on and off when we prefer to go and I can attest it is a rough time to try to get bookings.
