It was hilarious to watch my DD14's face yesterday when I asked her if she wanted to take a little trip down to DL next Thursday after her last final (at 10 am). There's a teacher workday Friday, so it gives us a nice long weekend.

She looked at me in confusion (knowing what a PLANNER I am when it comes to Disney excursions) and said, "But Mom! That's, like, less than a WEEK away! How can you possibly plan that?"

Well, I have. We're flying down from the Bay Area (thanks SW for the $49 airfares, even though we have to go to LAX!), renting a car for only $48 for Thurs-Sun from Avis (great code!), staying for $95 a night at the Candy Cane and we got tickets from Ares Travel for less than the advertised pre-purchase DL price!! ($164/3-day hopper)
:dance3: :yay: :woohoo: :dance3:

I'm just a little excited...

Anyway, I was able to throw all of that together quickly in an hour this morning. I checked packages (out of curiosity--never have found one that was cheaper) on DL's website and they were twice as much--WITHOUT the airfare. So that's my 2 cents on packages, for what it's worth...

congrats!!!!!!

I hope you al have the best time next thurday!
I'm happy SWA gave you a great airfair rate and that you got an excellent rental car rate too. Make sure to do a trip report!

BTW.....

Welcome Back to DisneyLand!!!!!:cool1:

(its a week early but who cares right:thumbsup2 )

Thanks for the good wishes, valenrandy! I KNOW we'll have fun. There's nothing like the original park to put a big smile on my face (and tears in my eyes!!!!):lovestruc

The best trips to the magic place is when you just go on short notice!

Just like wishes @ wdw, remembr @ dl has the same teary effect!

We'll be there too...although we have been planning this trip since October. We always go this time of year but we usually only go for a quick weekend. The kids here have a 3 days weekend too so we are leaving Thursday night and will be at the parks on Friday and Saturday. :dance3: I'm too excited to sleep:cheer2:

I'm taking an impromptu trip, too. So are you going this coming weekend, or next week? If it's next, if you see a solo traveler wandering around, that's probably me. :)

"tickets from Ares Travel for less than the advertised pre-purchase DL price!! ($164/3-day hopper)"

Since you've now started the impromptu trips, it is VERY obvious that you need to upgrade during this trip to APs, so that you can have a whole year for less than $100 more each.

I love Disney math!

I'm going next weekend. And I actually WAS seriously thinking of getting an AP for myself--don't know about DD. We'll see...;)

Hey, we live in Washington and have APs. We went for a vacay in Sept, had 5 day hoppers, and thought "well if we visit my brother in San Diego and come up for a one day visit, the total of those tickets is MORE than if we just get APs", so we upgraded. :)

Also that Saturday is a crazy thing that micechat is putting on, where bunches of teams are going to be running around trying to get on every ride in a day. I wish I could participate, but I'm only there until Saturday afternoon. :sad1:

I wondered why so many hotels were booked... now it makes sense. That sounds fun--and on an EE day possibly DOable!!:thumbsup2

I wish I was going after my finals. They start tomorrow! :scared1:

So what am I doing? Of course I'm on the DIS! :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

Have fun!

Congrats on planning a quick getaway!

If you don't mind sharing, where did you locate a code for Avis?? I'm having alittle trouble coming up with good deals.

ooh - sounds like fun!

DH & I are going in early Feb - I work at a school and make photocopies for the teachers. They will be well into the new semester, so it'll be a good time to go.

I love impromptu! We use our DVC points at the DLR so have to plan a little ahead.

Have fun (& what a nice treat for your daughter - after finals!)

AP is def the way to go!

Just like @ wdw.... It makes my mind up fast since I don't have to worry about tickets anymore. I feel like I saved 200$ when I go:cool1: only to save another 200$ the next time too:rotfl:

When renting a car, I always check two places in particular. One is carrentals.com (just to see what some of the going rates are) and then there's a site called rentalcodes.com. It has codes for several companies. I just go to each company's website and check rates with the codes given and see what comes up. This particular one was G540700 and it was a special weekend code. I'm glad I tried it, as I usually don't even look at Avis or Hertz--they're usually more expensive than the others!

Bumber, looks like we will be there the same weekend!! You can join our group of 4 big kids if you want! LOL

Enjoy your trip, and seriously consider those AP's. I see you are in SF. We are pretty close to you and since we bought our AP's in July we've been a lot! LOL Spur of the moment weekend trips are really quite fun!! :)
