If you get a new smartphone (Blackberry, Android, etc) or upgrade your smartphone with Sprint after 1/30/11, you will have pay an additional 10 for your unlimited data. If you already pay a "premium data" charge for an Evo, your rates will stay the same. If you are able to upgrade prior to 1/30, doing so now will help you to avoid the increase until you upgrade your phone the next time. My upgrade was originally available on 2/1, but Sprint was able to push it back since I am within 2 weeks of that date. I got an Optimus S today, and (if I can keep my phone safe), I will not be subject to the increase for another 2 years, or if/when I upgrade again....unless they change the rules....

Hmmmmm, I'm available for an upgrade on Feb 1 as well. I'm going to check this info out next week and see if I can upgrade the BB to the EVO shift early. Thanks for the tip!

The premium data fee of 10 already exists for 4g phones.

I just got my Samsung Epic this week and I LOVE it! Even though I have to pay the extra $10/month, it is completely worth it. We don't have a lot of 4G access in the suburbs, but it is available downtown. I tried it the other day and it is SO fast. They are expanding it so I know that, eventually, I will be glad that I chose the 4G instead of a 3G alternative.
