I am room Mom for my daughters 5th grade class. We are planning a Spring party and have some cute crafts for the girls to do, but are completely stuck on a craft for the boys. :confused3

So i thought i would turn to my DisBoard buddies, in the hope that you can help!

I need a craft for 9, 10-11 year old boys. The teacher asked us to make it a Spring party and not an Easter party, so i take that to mean no religious stuff!

Also if you have an ideas for a game, that would be great too!

TIA

I would have the boys build a kite... that would be cute and fun! :thumbsup2

What about planting flower/veggie seeds. The plants can then be planted at a senior center/community center. :grouphug:

I like the pp kite idea! Or something baseball or skateboard theme?

Are your required to make a craft? If not, I would skip it for the boys. Boys that age rarely care for crafts. When I was the fifth and sixth grade room mom, we did group games like Mad-Libs, Pictionary and Scattergories instead of crafts.

What is your craft $$ budget? How much craft time will you have at the party? How many helpers will you have at the party?

If your budget is $1 per kid, 20 min and only the teacher and yourself to help then you craft needs to be really basic, but if you have $5 per kid, 45 min and a room full of helpers your crafts can be much more elaborate.

Just as a side note, what is your "girl" craft that boys aren't allowed to participate in? I would plan on a single class craft rather than trying to prep and buy for two craft projects.

The other Room Mom brought a bunny magnet craft, she brought it as a class craft, but as a pp said, boys are really not in to doing many crafts at that age. Actually the other Room Mom's son said he would like to do a game.

An ideas on a fun age appropriate game, that we could maybe tie in to the Spring theme?

The party is an hour in total, which will include food time.

I would do the Minute to Win it challenge which is labeled "Junk in the Trunk" but you could rename it to the Peter Cotton Tail challenge or something else similar. You strap a kleenex box around the waist with a string and they have to jump and shake to get all the "tails" (ping pong balls or cotton balls) out of the box in the set time.

My DS8 did this at a birthday party, it was fun. Do you think 10/11 year old boys would find it fun?

I recently did tee shirts with that age group. I bought tee shirts at Michaels on sale. I think I got them for 4.00 each. I had a slew of fabric markers and I let them make their own shorts. It appealed to everyone.

Have a paper airplane contest. They can make their own airplane and then see whose goes the furthest.
