I've run the numbers.

Hotel, tickets, food, driving expenses etc. for 2 adults and 3 children for 5 nights and 4 days at

POR in April.............................$2791
ASSp (2 rooms) in April..............$3115
Average high temp in April: 83

POR in June.............................$2680
ASSp (2 rooms) in June.............$2934
Average high temp in June: 91

Both times (Spring break or just after school gets out) are "most crowded." Historically park hours are a bit longer (maybe an hour) in June.

So which would YOU do?

Other info:
DD12 wants June because we could spend her bday in the MK.

Two of the kids are adult size, and can't share a bed.

I HATE heat.

We're trying to keep this under $3000.

Bumping this for those who don't read past page 1 .. :cool1:

And any reasons why you chose what you chose would be great, too.

I go in June now instead of Spring Break. I'd rather deal with the heat than the crowds. My boys 6'6, 6'4 and 6'2 shared a room with us at the Dolphin the last time we went......of course we had a rollaway. I would probably go with Port Orleans with the moderate immenities over the All Star and enjoy the "closeness" of your adult size kids for a week!! :teeth:

Thanks for your response, Kitty!

I wonder if we could get a rollaway in addition to the trundle at POR? I kind of doubt it. If we do stay there, the big kids (6'2" and 5'9") will have to take turns sleeping on the floor while DD6 gets the trundle.

We went Spring Break last year after going two years in June and July. The spring weather is beautiful, and the park hours around Easter were as good or better than summer hours. MK had EMH every morning at 7 a.m. for two weeks. I don't know if you will be able to get your kids up that early, but we were able to get tons done during the early morning hours. It was so nice not to be sweating at 9 a.m. If you hate heat, Orlando in mid-June is not a good place to be.

We love mid to late June in WDW. I like to plan it so it coincides with my kid's last day of school.....we leave either that afternoon or the next day - it sort of a kick off to summer!

I've also been over Spring break in April....the weather is lovely, but the crowds are big. Still, with fast pass and the long hours, if commando style is not a must, you could go then and have a wonderful time.

Either choice sounds good to me. :)

(sorry, I guess I'm not much help!)

So Snoopy, what do you do if there are snow days and the school year gets extended? I know you live in my part of the world (we're in Maryland.) We had 3 or 4 snow days last year.

The way the weather has been funky with the hurricanes and the fact I also like cooler temps, I would go in April.
However it would be March if I was going over my kids Spring Break. Ahhhh...one of these days we will get back. All vacations are on hold for us.

I always suggest more room-go with 2 rooms at the all stars....I prefer June to spring break personally.

That only happened one year...we left on the day we were scheduled to leave and the kids missed the last couple of days of school. Not a biggie, but they were a little disappointed with missing the last days, since they have activities and such they look forward to.

Although the more I think of your situation...if you absolutely hate heat, I think you are better off over spring break. You really could not ask for better weather than April (unless you went in October, which probably isn't an option with school schedules). June can get pretty hot (although nothing compared to August -- DO NOT GO IN AUGUST IF YOU HATE HEAT!! I love heat and was miserable in August!).

How many times have you been to the parks? Will you feel gyped if you don't get to go on everything? I think if you have the mindset that you may not get to do as much, spring break would be great. You'll be coming off what will probably be another crappy Maryland winter, and you will welcome the beautiful sunshine in sunny Florida.

And I vote for two rooms no matter when you go....I hate feeling stifled in my room. My kids aren't old enough yet for that, but when they are, you can bet we'll go for the 2 room option.

OK, the reservation has been made.

DH made the executive decision that we're staying at POR (to save the $300) and I made the executive decision that we're going at Spring Break (because I REALLY hate heat.) The kids are disappointed; they wanted to go in June; but hey! They get to go to WDW! (IF we can get the credit cards payed down by then. If not, the whole thing gets cancelled anyway.)

Barb, I'm hoping to go next year but I told DS it will have to be during value season, as much as I would love to be there for Spring Break. The cost is just too much in Spring plus, if we wait until July, we don't have to worry about getting back for school. Another plus about going in July is I can get to TL early in the day and float the day away in the lazy river! :sunny:

I see that you already made your decision, but I must stick my two - cents in. I would go in June over Spring Break times any day. Living here in Florida and getting to go to WDW frequently allows me to really compare crowd levels, heat, etc. April can be in the high 80's which feels pretty much like 90 to me. Spring Break weeks are crazy with crowd levels and I've seen the parks shut their doors to all but resort guests by noon because they are actually at capacity. I would rather a few degrees warmer than wall to wall people. With all those people pressing and pushing against you in lines it will feel warmer anyway.

Just a warning: mid-late June is their "rainy" season...we went two different times in June ,right after school got out and both times it RAINED for at least a couple of hours everyday! :umbrella: We have lots of photos with our yellow ponchos on !!! I would pick Spring Break if I had to ...crowds may be heavy, but they are in June too ...at least no rain in April ! :flower:

Another thought ... I'd pick POP instead of the All-Stars.Just got back in August and we had a wonderful stay...great themeing, colorful, clean, piped in music ,spray jets and the Hippy Dippy Pool ... the kids would love it .I stayed @ All Stars and ... :flower: POP is MUCH nicer and newer and the room price is the same !!! Happy Planning :flower:
