Spring Break in Disney World! 3/14 - 3/21

Our paths will probably cross a bit - we're also planning to be in EMH parks each day! We'll definitely be at AK for evening EMH, because I want the photos! :)

is it bad that I've spent the last 2 days thinking and looking up stuff for our AUGUST trip! haha, that's so bad! I already know where we want to eat! Since this is my trip planning thread I'm going to ramble about our August dilemma.

The original plan (that was sorta going to be a surprise, I was just going to say we were staying at Pop again) was to get a room in the baseball building at All Star Sports since this is his birthday trip. Then I realized the 4/3 promo is still going on in August, but it ends before his birthday so we wouldn't be IN Disney on his birthday. But then I realized we'd save even more if we stayed at something more expensive then a value, which led me to the Deluxes.... I've always wanted to stay at the Poly, but that is booked. We decided on Wilderness Lodge, but they only have a suite available and we just want a standard/king room so that is an extra $300ish that isn't necessary. So I started looking into the moderates but I would rather stay at a value. So... I "accidentally" found the Yacht Club and fell in love... so pros/cons

Deluxe/Second week of August
it's not hubby's birthday week
costs almost twice as much as less extravagant options
its an awesome hotel and we should splurge at least once
its close to epcot
boardwalk
did I mention the hotel is awesome?
we could spend more time at the hotel relaxing, enjoying our vacation
table service dining at resort
because of the 4/3 promo we'd be saving over $1000
since a December trip is very unlikely to happen, we could just splurge and have one nice one then two at values

Pop/Third Week of August
it's hubby's birthday week - the reason for this trip
later in the summer/last week before school for me
possible free dining
the $1000ish we save by staying at a value as compared to a deluxe would pay my summer tuition or fall tuition
we love pop
in the past we have spent little to no time at the hotel so we don't need fancy
we love pop
it's still disney so does it matter where we sleep?
bus only has one stop, doesn't share - usually no problem with waits

Hubby is going to let it up to me I'm sure and I'm so torn. He told me that before he went to work we didn't have to be in disney ON his birthday to celebrate, and he was excited about Wilderness Lodge, but I didn't find out a standard room isn't available. I'd love to splurge on the Yacht Club but I'd feel so guilty. The values are just fine for us but I just don't know. Any input?

The y&b club are my favorite hotels, and to be honest once you stay at a deluxe hotel its hard to stay at a moderate or value hotel. I love the y&b because you can walk to epcot and hollywood studios. I think its worth the extra money for the location and amenities like the pool. Its just hard to convince my DH otherwise!! :goodvibes

I figured! I don't want to get spoiled haha because Pop is a good thing for us since we haven't stayed "better" at Disney. We narrowed it down to Yacht Club, or Pop. It's just trying to decide how much we want to spend, as YC would be almost double. What are the rooms like? Thanks for your input!

Basically you are paying more for the location. In my opinion is worth it to others its not. The rooms are typical disney rooms, they seem a bit bigger and plus you have a small balcony. check out allears for room pictures to get a better idea of the rooms: http://allears.net/acc/faq_yc.htm Hope this helps you out. :wizard:

Just found ya!

We were there for our honeymoon in June, too. When were you there exactly? We were there June 15-22. We stayed at POFQ!

I'm not sure if you still want resort opinions, but I think you should stick with POP. I know you said you guys are new home owners; you never know what could happen with a home that may cost extra money. And, if that money can cover your tuition right now, that's going to help you in the long run. Disney isn't going anywhere; and, with the way the economy is right now (sorry to throw that in), you never know what can happen. So, save your money now and put it towards something you need, not want.

Then, if you don't end up needing the money, save it for a future trip where you CAN stay at a deluxe without questioning your choice. The way I look at any thing in life is that if you're hesitating, there's a reason, even if it's not what you really want at the time. You'll be at WDW either way; and, like you said, you don't stay in the room much. Use the extra on tuition, finish school, then go back afterwards when you aren't questioning your choice to stay at a deluxe to celebrate!

We postponed a vacation because we were questioning it; afterwards, it was such a relief even though I was upset we had to cancel. Now, we're going when we know we can do it without questioning what we should spend, where we should stay, etc.

Hope that may help!

Thanks for the input! We got married on May 31st and were in Disney for our honeymoon June 10-17 I think, at Pop. I'll have more to say when we come back - we're finishing up last minute stuff and off to the airport around 430 am!

we're back! We had a great time, the weather was perfect! The parks were soooo crowded. Worse than last June but at least the heat wasn't unbearable. So I think our dilemma about August is solved - we're going to wait until maybe January 2010 when the crowds won't be bad (hopefully - that is what we thought about March!) We loved how the theme had changed so there were a lot of new things even though we were there about 9 months ago.

Exciting news... I'm auditioning for a job as a dancer in April for WDW this summer. Logistically I don't know how this would all work as far as leaving my job, and living in FL for the summer as my husband wants to work in Disney for the summer too - but someone has to stay here with a real job and pay our bills, lol. It may not work out but it's always been a dream of mine so I might as well try!

Welcome back! I'm glad you guys had a great time (so did we!). We didn't really think the crowds were that bad, except @ AK on the EMH day, and @ DHS on EMH day. I guess that's why the touring plans always recommend NOT going to an EMH park! LOL

Good luck with your audition! DH & I have been half-joking about looking into getting FL teaching credentials, and applying for jobs in Celebration - we'd love to be that close to Disney every day!

PS - We closed on our house today... I'm getting ready to add some pictures to my pre-trip report!

CONGRATULATIONS! on the house. Can't wait to see the pictures!

well I have some news...

looks my audition is a no go - I can't get that day off work and I can't justify why I need it off because I could possibly lose my job if I told them I wanted to work somewhere else for 3-6 months... so maybe next summer? :confused3

I didn't get into nursing the first time. So I think I'm going to keep working through the summer and suck up and be on good graces - we're moving to a new hospital in the fall and cut backs could be possible after the move is complete so I'm trying to save my tail JIC. My husband graduates in May so when I start nursing *hopefully* next spring I won't have to work, or can go to prn work.

So that means... I just got off the phone, booked Aug 17-24 with free dining at All Star Sports!

Awesome - you get your August trip after all! We'll just miss each other on that trip... but being teachers, we can't get out of town that late in August. I really liked All-Star Sports on my first (adult) trip to WDW many years ago... but was not as happy with All-Star Movies for the one night we were there last month... although it's possible that I'm just spoiled by DVC now. LOL

AS-Sports has the advantage of being the first one in, so its generally easier to get a bus, and at the end of the day, its the first drop-off as well... I think MK is the only park that runs separate busses for the 3 All-Star resorts... they share busses at the others.

thanks for the info on the All Stars. I'd love to request a baseball room but according the the map they are way far out so I think we're just going to take what we get. We don't request preferred because as much as it sucks late at night when you are tired, we don't mind walking.
