Hi - We are sailing soon in room 5024 SPR which is a connecting room. Does anyone know if this cuts down on storage? I've heard that other rooms are missing the steamer chest in the Secret Porthole Rooms. Any info is greatly appreciated. We will be happy just to have the light in the morning - but with 4 people in the room I sure hope we don't lose any storage.

Thank you....Brenda :earsboy:

We were in 2 connecting SPH rooms on the Magic cruise that returned this past Saturday ( yes, the infamous 1/15 Western which missed 2 ports! ;) ) and there was a steamer chest in both of our rooms: 5522 & 5524. With a family of 7, we made good use of this space for all of the shoes!

There are not steamer trunks in 5020 and 5520.

Why is this true for the two SPH rooms that don't have trunks? Aren't these rooms the same exact size as the others? Couldn't they fit the trunks in? Does anybody know why... just wondering.

we put all our shoes out on the balcony! LOL

We just sailed in room 5022 & 5024 last month. Both had steamer trunks, but they were smaller than the one in our cat 4 that we had in Aug. about half the size. Still had plenty of storage though.

I made an assumption (and yes, I am that popular saying) and hope I didn't give out incorrect information. My boys have stayed in 5520 and I know there was no steamer trunk in it - so I assumed there wasn't one in any of them.

For outside staterooms up to and including category 5, the steamer trunk fits into a recess in the wall. If you look at the deck plan, you'll see the most staterooms have one long wall that jogs in and out. This means that the steamer trunks in two adjacent rooms are effectively side-by-side, not back-to-back. Every inch has to count on a cruise ship.

However, some staterooms are up against straight bulkhead walls, so they don't have a recess for the steamer trunk. The steamer trunk can't go against a straight wall because there would not be enough room between the steamer trunk and the bed to open the steamer trunk or to walk between the steamer trunk and the bed.

That's why 5020 and 5520 don't have steamer trunks, but the other four SPRs do.

There are also other rooms in other categories that don't have steamer trunks.

The steamer trunks in the four SPR that have them are the same size as the steamer trunks in other outside staterooms up through category 5.

Category 4 does not rely on a recess in the wall because there's a little more room to work with. I did not realize that this also allows a larger steamer trunk, but that makes sense.

mommyto5,
Would you happen to have any pictures from room 5522? We are in that room on the Magic in Sept. 2005. Were you happy with that room? Thanks so much!!

So sorry joyowen, but I don't have any pics! :guilty: I was afraid of filling all of the space on our memory cards so I decided to wait and see if we'd have room for the pics toward the end of the cruise... of course, when I thought of it again - the room was a mess so we didn't get pics at all! lol

We did really love the room and it was definitely the better of the two we had (5522 & 5524). The 'free' view was not very obstructed at all! ;) The location was wonderful - very convenient to the Oceaneers Club & Lab (same floor) & the Buena Vista theatre (same floor). The Walt Disney theatre was just one floor down - practically right underneath. I loved being right off the elevators/forward stairs.

I would definitely book 5522 again!
