We just got through our first soccer season with all three kids playing. Needless to say we are all very tired and I have hundreds and hundreds of photos to go through. On a side note, I am still amazed at how good my pictures turn out with my new 70-200mm L IS f/2.8 lens. Who ever said that the equipment can't make you a better photographer hasn't tried L glass!!!

Anyway, I hope to put together a DVD photo slideshow set to music like I have done in the past. What I like to do is add music that matches nicely with the theme of the photos. Since there are not a lot of "soccer songs" out there, I was wondering if anyone could think of some other songs/music that have a good beat/rhythm/tempo/etc that would go well with a sports themed slide show. I have three kids playing soccer this year so if I could get three good songs I can do one kid per song.

I do have one song I plan to use, and it actually is a soccer song. Its "Olay, Olay, Olay" and is often played at South American soccer matches. But I'd like to hear any others you can think of.

Thanks for your help.

I've put a couple of DVDs together of my son's soccer and t-ball games using music from http://freeplaymusic.com/ you can search on keywords such as the mood of the scene and it usually has a number of durations to pick from for the same piece of music. You can have a couple of pieces of music in the total video rather than just one popular song. Results are much more professional looking (sounding).

There's always the ever popular "Get Ready For This" by 2 Unlimited, and "Rock and Roll - Part 2" by Gary Glitter. You can often hear these two at almost any sporting event.

Remember that great old "NFL Films" music?

I'ts been released on cd called "Autumn Thunder". It can be a bit heavy and overly dramatic, but if used right it's fun.

walmart, usually has a variety of cds, that are a mix of sports songs , such as those played on espn etc...

Just a quick note on the legal ramifications.

If you ever intend to put your video on a semi-public site (even if you don't expect anyone but your parents in Omaha to look at it) do not use commercial music in it. I personally have several years' worth of videos I'd love to put up on my YouTube account, but simply can not do so because I used commercial music in the background.

Now, I really doubt BMI and Sony will come knocking on your door looking for ASCAP fees for distributing the latest Hannah Montana song as background music on a sprts team DVD or a DVD you sent to your kids' grandparents. However, after putting so much effort into a slideshow it's natural to want to show it off to a wider audience.

At http://tomdibble.wordpress.com/2008/06/18/picking-slideshow-music/ I talked about the alternatives here. The one I like is looking for Creative Commons music. The Creative Commons licensing model is specifically geared towards this type of thing; so long as you find music with a "derivative works allowed" clause in it (again, details on the site above), you're safe distributing your own creation with it in the background far and wide. For this, I use sites like www.jamendo.com, although there are several other places where artists are putting uptop-notch music with a permissive license.

The other legal option is as was listed above: seek licensing for the commercial tune, either through a site such as freeplaymusic.com or ASCAP et al. However, be warned: the correct license is never cheap. They REALLY don't want you using their music this way, and I can't figure out why. Expect $100 per four minutes used, per year to put it on YouTube, per song used (so, if you use a 2:30 song and a 1:00 song, you've hit $200/year licensing costs). This is exorbitant! I have five or six productions I'd love to put online, but to do so would cost me over $1,000 per year, for about 20 minutes of videos!

In any case, I've gotten some really good results with Jamendo. Search for instrumentals (I find vocals in background music distracting unless the song is well-known amongst the audience). It's not as easy to find the right song as in freeplaymusic, but if I pay myself $100/hour it still pays for itself on one video :)

I've used some of those old NFL Films tunes for some flag football slideshows I did for team parents. My favorites are....

Round Up - Sam Spence
Up She Rises - Sam Spence
A New Game - Tom Hedden

I purchased these on iTunes.

What about the theme song from Friday Night Lights the movie? The band is Explosions in the Sky

There was a CD out a while ago that had all the songs that you would here at arenas and stadiums. I think I have it......somewhere.

I use to work in a music store ages ago.

Some of those cd's were called:

Jock Jams / Jams Jams 2

Jock Rock / Jock Rock 2 / I think they had another one as well but can't remember that title.

Sirius by Alan Parsons Project is great. They played it all the time at Arrowhead for the Chiefs.

I know they played the song "Ole Ole Ole" as well here at the KC wizards games but they also play "Unbelievable" by EMF when they scored a goal.

You should be able to listen all these songs on Amazon.com to see how they would work for you or the ever dreadful walmart.com

I'll try to think of some others throughout the day. Good luck. Putting together music/photos/and video is one of my favorite things to do. We use photostory 3/windows movie maker/and one other and it is so much fun to come home from vacation or put together a show for someone's anniversary and have the whole family watch it.
