Could someone please tell me where they go when there are no Olympics on?? QUOTE]
Probably doing the hours and hours of exhausting training, 7 days a week, 52 weeks at year that are required to reach not only the standard to represent Great Britain at the Olympics, but to win a gold medal! There are also numerous 'lesser' events that take place all year round in athletics (and I'm sure in rowing as well) that are not covered on TV; like european athletics meetings, club events, county events, cross countries, indoor events etc.
These athletes have been training for 4 years to be at their very best for those few weeks at the Olympics and their achievements should get every bit of praise and rewards they rightly deserve.
I'm sure James Toseland is just as dedicated and skilled in his chosen sport, and I wouldn't dream of belittling his achievements, even though to be honest I've never heard of him!
I guess it comes down to public exposure and TV coverage.
