Why is Ben going back when he told Locke he could never return? Who beat him up?

All I kept saying to the tv was, "what happened Ben??" b/c I assumed someone would've been smart enough to notice that he was bloody and beaten up. I can't believe Jack didn't say a word to him about his condition?!?!
I'm guessing it has to do with Penny since they show him at a pier and Desmond/Penny live on a boat. DH is hoping that Desmond messed him up but I'm guessing if he is calling from the pier then Ben got to Penny....

What about Desmond? She said the island wasn't done with him.

I'm surprised they are all going back so soon.

I love this show!!!!! :thumbsup2[/QUOTE]

That's exactly what I was thinking last night while watching that part. I hope Penny is alright. Desmond has to be okay (he better be, anyway) because Mrs. Hawking said the island wasn't finished with him.

My favorite line from last night:

Jack: How can you read?
Ben: My mother taught me.

What do you guys think of this? I'm guessing that Sun somehow convinced Kate to go back to the island. She's the only person I can see Kate listening to who might be able to convince her to go back.

As for Aaron, at first I thought maybe Kate gave him to Claire's mom, but it would be too easy for other people to find Aaron. Then I had a wild idea: what if Kate gave Aaron to Sawyer's girlfriend, the one who's raising Sawyer's daughter? That would be a good way to keep Aaron hidden.

The one thing that is driving me crazy is when Eloise Hawkings was explaining how they have to get back to the island, not one of them asked how or even if they can come back home. Or is it just assumed that once they go back to the island, they are there for eternity?

Yep, that's bothering me, too. And what about Sun? She never said one word about Ji Yeon - she's just going to hop back to the island without her daughter? You'd think Sun of all people would be asking when they could come back, because then she'd be going back to the island to reunite with Jin and then they'd come back together to be with their daughter.

And Jack's a DOCTOR - you think he of all people would ask Ben why his face was all bloodied! Stupid people!

Who was the guy in the airport who said to Jack something like "I'm sorry for your loss" when he was checking in with Locke?

I know I recognize the guy, but I can't remember???:confused3

I don't recognize him, but I'll bet he's one of Ben's or Widmore's cronies.

I'm guessing that once again Ben lied when he said once you leave the island you can't go back. Ben's been leaving and coming back for a long time; he probably wanted to leave again, but the island had to be moved to hide it from Widmore. The island moving makes it much more difficult to get back, but Eloise Hawking was there to help.

We, too, thought Ben got beat up by Desmond when he was trying to kill Penny. I just hope Ben didn't succeed! Of course, that's one of those things we won't discover until the end of the season.

Maybe I'm making to much of this. Did you guys catch when Jack and Ben were on the plane talking and Ben is reading and Jack asks him how do you do it. Ben replies his mom taught him. Was that some sort of clue that maybe she is still alive?? I know it was said by Ben in a joking matter but it struck as me as funny thing to say about your dead mom

Hey, good catch. I forgot that she died at childbirth....so how could she teach him to read?? :confused3

Not sure if this is true....but my DH says that he is the first guy that Sayid beat up/tortured when he was in the Iraq National Guard.

I also wondered why no one asked any questions to Ms. Hawkings???? Are we going to be able to come home?? Are we going to be safe??? I mean they escaped from the island....and now they just want to go back?? I know that most of their lives have been messed up since returing home, but come on.....

I wonder if he is trying to go back as a replacement for Desmond. Maybe he was at the pier to try and convince him to go back and got beat up for his troubles.

I was wondering the same thing. They are all just going to go back with no questions asked!

I am wondering if the two extra people on the plane were to balance out the equation, one person for Aaron and one for Jin and Sun's baby. Technically she wasn't a "person" yet, but maybe the Island still considers her an entity to be returned.

My two bits.

I think the lady that flashed the badge and is transporting Sayid and the guy that talked to Jack at the counter are going to wind up on the island. They were the only other people in first class other than those trying to get back to the island. The guy who talked to Jack looks familiar to me and for some reason he looks like one of the two guys in the tent in the Artic that saw some anomily and called Penny to say they found something at the end of season 2 when the Swan station imploded. I did not get a chance to go back and look at my copy of season two so I don't know for sure. Maybe he is Penny and Desmonds "spy" on the plane to see what is going on on the island. I also wonder if the plane actually crashed or they were just transported to island? They showed no debris around, Hurley, Jack, or Kate. Also the Aijira Airline they were on is the same one they found the water bottles from during the flashback when Locke, Miles, Juliette, Sawyer, Faraday, and Charlotte found the canoe and starting rowing around the island. Maybe the survivors from that crash landed on the island in current time but those who had been there before crashed onto the island circa Dharma 1970's.

Also the thing that is kind of bothering me about Desmond is that he woke up with the dream/ memory of Faraday talking to him at the hatch which allowed him to talk to Widmore and make it to LA at the exact same time the O6 were going back but supposedly Faraday told the Swan version of Desmond to find his mother in Oxford as they were time jumping just a couple of days after the O6 left. Why did it take three years for the "memory" to get to Desmond?

Hope thats not a writers glitch. Also what is the timing between when Widmore told Desmond where Hawkings was and when he got to LA? They show the marina, and Ben being wet but realistically Desmond could not have sailed Penny, and Charlie from London to LA in a very short time so were Penny and Charlie even in LA?

This season has been great so far and is not suffering any lulls like previous ones have and I think this is because the writer/producers know the end game and know they only have so many episodes to get there.

My favorite line from last night by far was when Lapidus looked around and said "were not going to Guam are we?"

I had the same WILD idea! ;)

Great show last night! Of course - more questions than answers - but it keeps us coming back for more!

According to IMDB.com, the man has not been on Lost before.
http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0542356/
It just shows him in last's nights episode.

I still want to know how Hurley and Sayid wound up on the plane...

I'm guessing Ben's lawyer got Hurley off (which was supposed to happen per the previous weeks episode) and then told him to get on the plane...

The whole Sayid thing is a bit off though.

I also think the Ben went to kill Penny....and we'll have to wait to see how that turned out.

Well, Sayid is in handcuffs, being transported somewhere. Maybe he either confessed to the murders to get Hurley out of jail or somebody found out that Sayid is the one who committed the murders. If they're taking him back to Iraq, would they go via Guam?? Or is the official who's transporting him really one of Ben's cronies?

I wonder if he is trying to go back as a replacement for Desmond. Maybe he was at the pier to try and convince him to go back and got beat up for his troubles. .

Desmond doesn't need a replacement as he wasn't on flight 815.....

That's what I wondered.....and how can you confess and get deported back to your home country in 24 hours? Seemed odd to me that he was in that situation and didn't even react to Ben. He's now "taken" the role of Kate from the 815 flight....being in handcuffs with some sort of marshall.

ON another note....Why didn't Lapidus just turn the plane around? It's not like he has any reason to go back or would even want to......you would have thought instead of "we're not going to Guam are we" it would have been "I'm turning the plane around to head back to LA."

DH pointed out that, one of the Losties (Locke?) actually had the exact same line to Jack about his dad before they got on the plane the first time. I think Jack even remembered due to the way he did a double take with the guy.

My two bits.

This is true, because the preview next week showed her with Locke on the island. :thumbsup2

I think the bottle is going to be important. I keep telling DH that. The airline was part of the summer online stuff that the Lost people always do for us. Usually that stuff doesn't actually come to play.

I think they don't remember until they are supposed to. Just like Charlotte not remembering Daniel telling her not to come back right before she dies.

My favorite line from last night by far was when Lapidus looked around and said "were not going to Guam are we?"

Me too, but the "My mother taught me." by Ben was great and possibly important.

One of my favorite parts was Jack talking about Christian's white tennis shoes. This goes back to the mysterious man in the shack in the rocking chair who had white tennis shoes and a suit on. I thought it was a nice touch.

So they are trying to recreate the original crash as much as possible so:

Sayid is Kate with the Marshall
Hugo is Charlie
Who is everyone else? I might have to go back and watch the first episode again.

ON another note....Why didn't Lapidus just turn the plane around? It's not like he has any reason to go back or would even want to......you would have thought instead of "we're not going to Guam are we" it would have been "I'm turning the plane around to head back to LA."

Probably cuz he understands that where the island is concerned, you really have no control. Maybe if he tried to turn around, something worse would have happened--maybe they would have actually crashed (which I don't think they actually did)...

Of course that sounds like a writers cop-out even to me!:thumbsup2

Desmond doesn't need a replacement as he wasn't on flight 815.....

Yes, but he left the Island and with the O6.;)

Technically 9 people all left there at the same time, Jack, Sayid, Hurley, Kate, Sun, Aaron, Lapidis, Desmond and Penny.

I think what will happen is that 9 need to go back, Jack, Sayid, Hurley, Kate, Sun, lady with Sayid, Lapidis, Ben and other guy. As for Locke, he left differently then they did and will come back differently as well.

Here's a question? Was Ben aware of Desmond while he was on the Island? I wasn't paying strict enough attention last week to know if Ben knew who Desmond was.

I was wondering if anyone on that Island even knew Desmond was there. I don't think he ever left the station he was in. Others may not have realized that the original guy was killed and Des took his place.

That was a great episode.
I think Ben's line "my mother taught me" has significance since she died in childbirth.
The white sneakers on Christian's body, may be a link to Christian as Jacob :confused3
I'm very curious as to where Aaron is?
I agree that it was maddening that nobody asked if they can go back.
I think Sun figures that they got off the island once, she can get Jin and get off again.
I think Hurley's guitar is for Charlie, and I hope this means Charlie will be seen again. We know Hurley's seen him before, so hopefully we'll see Hurley seeing Charlie again.
My first thought when Ben was beat up, was that it had to do with Penny.
I was disappointed that Locke's note to Jack was so short. With all the buildup, I expected it to be more.

What did Locke's note say? I was at my desk and can't see very well that far and it was gone too fast. (need new glasses)
