I have seen some posters talk about splitting their stay between an onsite hotel and an off-site one. I am considering this to save some money since we will probably only spend 3 days at the parks and then go to Knotts Berry Farm and maybe Universal. My question is... how do you transfer hotels if you don't have a rental car? We are planning on not getting one and just relying on public transit or taxis when we need to go somewhere. So if we want to split our stay will be have to take a cab to the new hotel or do the hotels offer any sort of transportation for this sort of thing?

You will be on your own to get to the next hotel. Taxis are probably the best option with your luggage.
