Split stay with rented DVC points?

We are very much considering becoming DVC members after our trip in September. My husband has never been to Disney so he wants to make sure it's what we should do after we have been as a family. I was thinking of changing our reservation to 5 nights at POR and 3 nights AKL. Is this going to be a big hassle? I know split stays can kind of be a headache. Any advice would be appreciated, thanks!
Also if I buy the dining plan for my stay at AKL how hard will it be to use both dining plans separately? (Finishing up the free one before moving, and then using up the bought one before we leave)

The only problem with split stays is that homeless feeling you have on the day you switch resorts. You have to check out by 11 and you can't check in until after 3 at non-DVC resorts and after 4 at DVC resorts.

Your problem would be getting a reservation this late. And you will have to pay for the dining plan when it is added to your reservation. You'd have to add it no later than 48 hours before you arrive.

I really don't mind moving from one room to another. Disney moves your bags for you, and you get a clean room and get to experence another view!:cutie:

If we decide to do this we would move on our day I had planned as our "down" day . If we have to be out by 11 and can't be in until 4 would we not have a pool to swim in at either? Or will the new resort allow us to use the facilities early?

You can use the pool at either resort during the time you are "homeless." I would probably switch to the new resort and hope for a room before 4! Last Friday we went from a studio to a 2 bedroom at BCV. We got into our new villa just a bit before 3. It wasn't bad to switch...honestly, I don't remember what we did during those 4 hours. I know some of the time was spent at Beaches and Cream eating lunch and sundaes with the family that arrived around noon!

You can also use your moving day as a "park Day" Just have them text you when you room is ready and you will have your room number and room key to get in when you get back. I have done this before and it worked out fine.:lovestruc
