We are planning to book a WDW resort package for a few days and head over to Universal/IOA (and stay onsite) for a couple of days. Does anyone know whether this will affect the Magical Express transportation back to the airport at the end of our trip? Will we need to book one more night at a WDW resort after Universal/IOA?

Hope you enjoy the planning and have a great trip!

I've just come back from Orlando and did the split stay. I caught DME from MCO to WDW and then used a taxi to transfer over to UO. The taxi driver was really nice; so we used him to catch the taxi back from UO to MCO. We only booked DME to get to WDW and there was no issue with that.

Whether you book-end your UO component with stays at Disney so that you can use DME to get back to MCO will depend on you and how your family feels about packing up and moving. The packing and changeover does take time. In any case, you may need to pay for a taxi going back and forth....either between UO and WDW or between WDW/UO/MCO.

We factored in about $100 in total for the taxi. Good luck with the decision.

Thanks for your response PrincessInOz!

I have been doing lots of research to help with the planning, which has been fun and exciting!

It is just myself and my boyfriend so it won't be too difficult to pack up and move but I do see the convenience of going to the airport direct from UO. I guess we would only save a little on the taxi fare between UO back to WDW rather than from UO to MCO. And like you said, some time will be lost going back and forth.

It's good to know that you can book DME one-way only from MCO to WDW.

And thanks also for letting me know roughly how much the taxi fare was between WDW/UO/MCO.

I have not done it myself but I have heard other ppl on the disboards talk about airport transfers other than disneys, there are limo services and other shuttles, google it. Most give prices. It gives another alternative to taxis.

I think Mears is the main shuttle company. And iirc you could get quotes for itineraries (point a to point b) and cars (sedan, van, etc) from their website.

Universal have black "limo" service that will pick/drop you off at the airport. It's competitive with most shuttle/taxi services. Check it out online and work it out from there.

Their fleet of cars are effectively the same as what everyone else uses; only in that high gloss black that limousines are painted in.

nope did it a few weeks ago

got transfer from airport to universal

spent days at universal

got town car from Uni to wdw resort ($45)

at end of trip got magical express from Disney to airport

all easy and no questions asked

We also did the split last year - going to Universal first, and factored in a day shopping at the Prime outlet (closer to Universal). We used a cab to universal, and a private car rental to take us to WDW - this was booked by Universal.

Depending on what your plans are, you could also hire a car for the day with a pick up/drop off at each location.

ETA- We used DME to go back to MCO.

The Universal Hotels have town cars lined up out the front like any other hotel has taxis. I think they are "Mears" You just walk out the front and they will grab you one for your trip back to the airport. It will be a fixed rate and the standard price seems to be around $65 one way.
