Split stay "moving day" question?

Our plan is to check out of AofA, go check in @ BC and then either play mini golf or head to DTD, not planning a park until the evening.
Thanks again,
Laurie

Oh, gosh, then it's hardly a wasted day! As long as you plan the day and don't just sit around resorts (unless lazing around is what you WANT to do), it's not wasted.

We've always planned a pool day for moving day. Not sure if it's ever happened, but it's been the initial plan.

We have a rental car (always) and I don't believe in leaving luggage in the car, so we either leave the bags with Bell Services at the resort we're leaving or the next one, depending on our other planes. Sometimes we just want to get out for the day, so we drop them with the first, then later on come back to get them, then go to the second resort for checkin after official checkin time, and move into our room. Other times we have more time in the morning, and take the bags to the second resort, do the checkin process. If by chance the room is ready, we move in. If not, we leave with the Bell people.

If you have valuables in a bag, like a laptop, they have a special, extra-locked, area to put those bags in, so tell them!

They will do this at resort check in or do I have to go to guest services at the park? Sorry I'm a little confused:confused3

They will transfer your tickets to your new KTTW card at the concierge desk in the lobby of your second resort. BTW, this is just for your convenience if you want to continue only carrying one card. If you don't feel like having them transferred, just keep them on your old AoA KTTW and you can walk around with your new resort KTTW and old AoA KTTW with tickets on it. You can do the transfer whenever you want, if you want.

Yes you can keep the old ones. It was confusing for me. One time I left one set in the room and wouldn't you know, it was the old set:furious:. Had to go back and retrieve them from AKV. I was at MK.

Now I make sure I carry them all. It can get pretty confusing.:lmao:

We've done split stays in the past and have two coming up in October and January. So far, we've always moved to our new resort with our luggage via cab in the morning. We're checked in at the new resort and ready to go by rope drop.

In October when we transfer from BC to CR, we'll do the same. We plan to spend the morning in MK, so it's easier to start the day from CR. We're bringing our own luggage because we might want our swimsuits for the afternoon and we'll need our costumes for MNSSHP - I don't want to worry about luggage arrival time.

In January, we're letting Bell Services transfer our luggage from Poly to BWI. We aren't likely to be swimming in the afternoon and won't need our luggage during the day. We'll start the day in MK and end in Epcot, so no reason to take a cab over to BWI in the morning.

Just depends on our plans for the day and whether we will need our luggage before dinnertime. But no waste at all, and always well worth it for us!

We love split stays. It's like having 2 vacations in 1 when you can experience 2 different Disney resorts. I also don't see it as a wasted day at all. We get up in the morning, take our stuff to bell services, and then go to a park for the day ( but a pool or shopping or mini golf day works just as well). Then when you're ready you go and check into the new resort. It takes a little extra planning for dining plan etc., but otherwise quite easy.

Thank you all so much, I feel a lot better about my decision to do the split:thumbsup2 I'm also glad to know that they will transfer my park tickets to my new room key, I would be sure to forget to take them both.

Thanks again you guys rock:thumbsup2

We were stuck with having to do a split stay due to availability with DVC (the dangers of travelling at Christmas/New Years Eve with your home resort at VGC).

I know I read somewhere that they are working on making it to where you only have to check in once at your first resort, anyone know here when they might be starting this? I think it would help a lot.

We are not worried about packing/unpacking as it is only our first two nights at AKV and then the rest at Saratoga Springs, but to not have to go in to get new room keys would be great. Not essential as we will buy our tickets from an online discounter, so we will have to carry those anyway, but just saves a little hassle.

I have a different opinion of split stays, they are not for me. I am a "nester". I like to unpack and settle in once.
I agree with OP's DH, it feels like a "wasted" day to me. I realize that you can go to a park, but you are virtually "Homeless" for a full day.

:thumbsup2

Add us to the list of "nesters".

I did a split stay once and actually kind of liked it. I wanted to stay at BLT before making the pluge and adding on a contract to my DVC membership. A friend and I spent 3 nights at BLT and then 3 nights at CBR. On our last morning, we took our luggage down to bell services and told them we we were moving hotels they marked our bags and off we went to the magic kingdom for the morning. We left at lunch time and checked into CBR our room was ready and so was our luggage. It was very easy and I would do it again. The only change I would have made was to reverse the order in hotel stays. It was tough leaving a villa at a deluxe hotel for a room at a moderate.
