Split Stay Dining Plan

I know this question has been asked in many different ways, but I am still a little unsure. We are planning to do the regular dining plan for the first four nights, and the deluxe plan for the second four nights of our split stay.

I thought to use the second plan, all I needed to do was check out of the first resort. But now I have seen some posts about not being able to use the second plan unless all credits from the first plan are used. We are having breakfast at Ohana on the morning we are checking out of the first stay, and I want to use credits from the second plan. I can check out, but if any credits are left from the first plan, will I not be able to use the credits from the second plan? I will do on-line check in for the second stay.

If it is likely we will have a problem, I will probably just not do the dining plan for the first half of the trip. While it is convenient, I think we will save very little and I am more concerned with credits on the second part of the trip.

Yes. We did this last July, and are planning to do the same thing this June. You have to use all the credits (including snack credits) up from the first plan before your plan will change over on check in/check out day. We actually had this pointed out to us when we checked in for our first stay and mentioned that we had a split stay.

They also recommended checking out in person to be sure the second resort could "see" that our reservation had ended and they could look for our room to be available. In our case, the first resort called the second and our room was ready by noon. We did online check in, but they also called as we were checking out, which helped.

Thanks, I think it might be easier to just skip the plan for the first half. I still have time to decide.

It takes some planning, but it worked OK with us. Think of what would have happened if you didn't know about it ahead of time...

Piggybacking onto this thread to ask basically the same question.

Tomorrow I check out of Fort Wilderness and check in to Caribbean Beach for one night. We still have 16 deluxe credits on our Fort Wilderness dining plan that we'd like to use tomorrow, saving the 15 deluxe credits on our CBR plan for the day after tomorrow.

I'm assuming I should check out of Fort Wilderness either at 8am on my way to Magic Kingdom, which will allow WDW to start processing my CBR room, for which I have already checked in online, or I will check out of FW in the afternoon, after leaving MK and on my way to CBR, where we will go swimming until our room is ready.

Will I have to do anything to ensure that I use up the FW credits before using the CBR credits? Will that happen automatically? Should I get a print out of remaining FW credits when I check out at 8am or 2pm? If there's a discrepancy, can I sort it out at the CBR concierge after checking in there in the afternoon, or would I have to return to FW?

For check out I would do it on the way to MK. I would also ask the FW folks to call CBR and let them know you checked out. That should help make sure you are cleared in both systems.

For the dining plan, my understanding is that the new one won't kick in until all credits are used (snacks too) or it expires at midnight. But it might be worth mentioning at the restaurants that you want to make sure you are still on the FW plan. I'm not sure which desk could help you sort out issues. CBR can show you credits for that room, though, if you stop by the desk and ask.

Do this so you at least have a paper trail should anything happen. As PP said, your second set of credits should not even be accessible until all credits from first stay are used or midnight of that check out day, whichever comes first. If there are any problems, with your print out, you should be able to take care of them at CBR. There would be no reason to return to FW.

The restaurants have no idea where your plan is; they only see that you have credits, so asking at the restaurant won't help.

I can say don't sweat it, I had a split, split, split split, split stay last year. 15 days, 5 resorts and deluxe Disney dining plan. I never thought of check in check out, it just all worked out fine, except one time, but Disney fixed it and it turned out fine. That was at either the Hawaii Laua, or HDDR, they charged the credits in am on a day of a split check in. So when we went to lunch they said I had no credits. I paid for the lunch went and checked in, told them what happened, they fixed it and gave us three free FP for the trouble.
