Do we need to go to the front desk to check out of our first resort? We would like to just head to a park and not have to stop at the front desk. Will we be automatically checked out?

We had problems in the past when we didn't check out at the front desk and they told us we really need to check out before checking into the next resort. Especially if you have the dining plan.

Things seem to have calmed down, issue-wise, with the checkout thing.

One time we headed to the second resort before official checkout time, and had issues with checkin. No biggie, we had things to do so we came back later after official checkout time and all was well.

Since you’re heading to a park and not the next resort, the issue I had wouldn’t apply to you.

Having issues with checkin and checkout isn’t a feature; it’s a glitche. Glitches can happen any time and they can be fixed if they happen.

We will not be using the dining plan this trip. I guess it's not a big deal to take a few minutes to check out.

We will definitely not be heading to our second resort until late afternoon.

You don't need to check into your new resort until later on if you don't need to.

I am trying to avoid any issues due to our experience last trip. If there is any chance of an issue, maybe I'll just make my family get ready a little earlier and head down to check out in person.

Last April we had a 3 -way split stay and I guess, my MDX account was caught up in one serious glitch that caused major issues. We checked out of all our previous resorts before checking in, so I'm not sure what happened. It was quite the time suck, as it took five days of working with guest services and managers for over two hours per day, both at the resorts and the parks to rectify my corrupted MDX account.

We never bother to check out. Or in.
We simply pack up from resort A, drop bags for moving to resort B, head to the parks. When we know our room is ready, or we are ready, whichever comes first, we head to resort B. If our room isn't ready yet, we go check on it. If it is, we go right to our room and call for our bags. We only go to the desk if our room isn't ready. 99% of the time I'd say we have a room since we plan to spend the full day in the parks so we aren't without our bags and bag transfer takes longer than rooms do to get ready almost every time.
We've never had an issue.
But, we don't use traditional tickets or a dining plan so that may be a difference, no idea. We have an AP and always do meals OOP

I always stop by the front desk on my way out just as a courtesy so that housekeeping knows our room is empty and we aren't coming back so they can get it ready for the next guests. Could I accomplish this by calling the housekeeping button on my phone? I never know which of those buttons go to call centers.

On our last trip, that wouldn't have been necessary. Every checkout morning, we had housekeeping knocking on our door before 8:00 am.

Yikes! We are early risers and always out the door by then, so we've never had it happen to us. But I feel for the non-early risers if that's the case. We have had the opposite problem - we had a "security check" at 9:30 PM when most of the family was asleep.

I stopped by the front desk at BLT to check out before heading to SSR and asked if it was necessary to check out. They said the system will automatically do it at 11 am.
