Split Stay but only tickets on part of the stay. Can we do the dinning plan on both?

Hello Everyone!!!

We are doing a split stay. I purchased our tickets for the whole trip on the first reservation along with the dining plan. We have 2 days after that, that I was thinking that is would be nice to also have the dinning plan for as well. But it was DEF cheaper to buy the 7 day tickets instead of splitting them up. If I call, does anyone know if I can add the dinning plan to those 2 days?

no = i don't think so. but you have the dining plan until midnight of your first checkout day. the system can sometimes get messed up if you check in before you have used all your credits on your first stay. I know this because I have had split stays before.

have you considered not splitting the resorts and make it one or the other?

Hmmm. I was just going to do the first one and pay out of pocket for the rest. Which is still a fine thing. I was just curious it we could or not.

Regardless of adding the plan, I was worried what would happen if we had credits left when we check into the next hotel. We are staying at the Poly for the last 2 days. And I was hoping to use the last set of credits for that. But then I also didn't want to run into the issue you mentioned!

But I might just Pay out of Pocket for Ohana and make sure we use the last table credit before we check in for lunch.

No Problem! Maybe someone else will chime in. I was hoping that if I could add it in, then it would kind of negate the check in / check out issue

Ticketless package. As long as you got the room directly from Disney. Did you?
I did actually!

And I might see if it would make sense for us to add those 2 days.

Do you know if the dinning credits with the first party (that I have now) would need to be used at the end of that day at check out? Or if I could still use them till the end of the trip.

I am mostly thinking about snack credits and maybe a counter service credit or 2. Not table credits.

The Dining Plans don’t generally save you money, but they can be convenient. You need to draw down all the points from the first stay (on the day you check out of that stay) before the new points would be available to you.

I think you’d still be able to use the refillable mug from the first stay, regardless of whether you buy the plan for the second hotel.

I am looking at a couple buffets for dinner, so I def think we would hit the cost. And I do love not worrying about it. It's kind of a mental thing but it makes the trip more carefree.

If we have to draw a line like you say, I think I will skip the 2 extra days. It will just make things a little too complicated.

Plus my daughter just turned 10, so she is now considered an adult and it is a hard pill to take either way with or with out the dinning plan!

The credits from your first stay will ALL expire on midnight of your check-out day from THAT resort. They will not carry over to the second stay.
Also, the credits from your second stay cannot be accessed until ALL credits from your first stay are either used or expired, so plan carefully if you decide to add it onto the second stay.

Not sure if you followed the link supplied above, but you can add it to your second stay, but you do have to call to do so.

Just in case you weren't still following the thread, I wanted you to see that anyone CAN get the dining plan without getting tickets as long as they are staying on Disney property and booked directly with Disney (or through a Disney TA).

Thank Everyone!

This is how I am understanding it...

  • If you book directly with Disney, you can call Disney and add the dining plan to a room only reservation.
  • With a Split Stay, the 2 portions of the trip will be treated as separate dinning packages.
  • So, the first part of the trip, on the first set of dinning credits will expire at midnight on the day we check out OR when we check into the next hotel.

Yes, I think you are understanding this correctly.

We did split stay 11/2015. We stayed 5 nights at CBR and 3 nights at AKL, which is considered 2 separate reservations. We had the free dining plan for each reservation, but we chose to upgrade to deluxe dining for the first portion of the trip. At midnight at the END of that reservation (check out day), all our dining credits from that reservation expired. The new dining credits picked up that morning to go with the new reservation (check-in day, which was the same as check out day at CBR). I do want to warn you that we ran into some trouble with this as there was some overlapping of credits from the old reservation to the new. So, I think to avoid this, make sure you use all of your credits the night before you check out of resort #1 so there is no confusion about portion#2. Does that make sense? I'm very sleep deprived.

The dining plan isn't based on tickets, it's based on resort stay so it shouldn't matter that you put all your tickets on the first reservation as long as you use them within the expiration date. It's definitely more economical to buy 7 at once versus 5 on one reservation and 2 on the other.

  1. If you book directly with Disney, you can call Disney and add the dining plan to a room only reservation.
  2. With a Split Stay, the 2 portions of the trip will be treated as separate dinning packages.
  3. So, the first part of the trip, on the first set of dinning credits will expire at midnight on the day we check out OR when we check into the next hotel.
1. Almost. By adding a dining plan, you are changing your reservation from room-only to a [ticketless] package. This changes your terms & conditions, notably the cancellation period.
2. With a Split Stay, your entire visit will be treated as and considered separate everything.
3. Dining credits from the first reservation expire at midnight of the day you check out. You can't combine credits from the two different reservations. You can't combine one (last) credit from the first with one from the second for a signature meal or show, but you can have one person use that leftover credit on the switch day, while everyone else uses the new reservation credits.

just make sure your server is clear on your intent.
