My family's last trip to DW was almost 5 years ago. Splash mountain was one of my kids favorite attractions but the water didn't smell very good. It smelled like mildew. My husband took a backstage tour and went to the water tank area. He said the smell was pretty bad.

Has the water been cleaned up?

I think it's the boats moreso than the water. The boats smell from all those damp wet bodies sittin in em :)

I agree, I think it is from the people sitting in the boats. It was pretty stinky in the heat of last July!

EEEEEEWWWWWWWWWWWWW!!!!!!!!!!!

I must say that I have noticed that too - but it doesn't usually stop me riding - unless it's january!

If he took the backstage tour I am sure he told you that they change the water out weekly. It is also more like "pool" water to discourage bacteria.

Actually the smell on the backstage tour area of Splash is the trash compactor. It's next to the Splash building.

Also, the water is kept at the minimal levels for potability. In other words you can drink it (I wouldn't recommend it though). So it is treated.

The smell is from the seats....but I have only noticed the smell being horrible during the summer when there are lots of hot, sweaty people sitting in the seats.

We won't touch the handle in front of us in the log because when we do, our hands really get that stinky smell!

Is it me or does anyone else notice that all water on disney property has a certain smell, such as when you shower etc - or am I just odd :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

gavvy....I agree with you about the water. It is one of the few places my kids ask for bottled water in the hotel rooms. :rotfl2:

It isn't just Disney water, it is Orlando water that smells. On our backstage tour they did say the water was changed weekly and all the things thrown in by passaengers were cleaned out daily (or more often then that). I have never noticed a smell on the ride but I don't go to WDW during the summer.

Yes, the smell is pretty gross! I never ever touch the ride handles on this ride. Put your hand around one and then smell your hand!! Gross!! I'd much rather go down the drop with my hands up in the air then to touch that nasty handle!

The handles and padding have some absorbancy, and so the water gets in, and they must not clean it nightly. It then becomes a breeding ground for mold. That's the moldy smell.

I'm big with smells, and I guess my kids got that from me because they are too!
Smelling is one of the biggest things to trigger your memory.
Whenever I smell something, most of the time it reminds me of Disney. The water definitely has a distinct smell. I would not call it a bad one, though :goodvibes

I always notice the smell as I first get on. After the ride gets going, I have such a great time that I totally forget about the smell. It's not bad enough to stop me from riding. I couldn't even imagine not ri.ding just because my hands smell a little after the ride. That's what soap and water are for! :teeth:

Yea it doesn't smell too good. When we took my friend we came off and smelled like puke!:scared:  :crazy2:
