We did Hoop Dee Doo last time and LOVED it but want to try something different. We have kids 4-12 and will be doing character experiences as well as better dining for the older kids. My question is, which of these two would you prefer and why? Thanks..

We did BYBBQ about 4 years ago for Thanksgiving. Loved it. I am not a fan of Country Western Music, but this was really good character interation was great - including line dancing with Chip and Dale. Because of the holiday, we did not have the usual menu, so I can't comment on the food except to say our traditional Thanksgiving meal was very good. We are looking at trying the BBQ this summer. I'd get there early - there is no assigned seating (picnic tables) and people get very territorial.

We did the Luau in the fall of 08. We enjoyed it, but it's not something we'd rush to do again. Our DS3.5 got bored during part of the show - although he loved the fire dancers. The storyline was also a little stilted. The food was great, and some parts of the show were spectacular. We also had a wonderful server.

If you loved HDDR, I'd give the BBQ a try and hold off on the luau until your younger ones are just a bit older.

Have a great trip!

not sure if this will help because we have only done the luau, and this was 2 years ago. our experience was very very positive. we lucked out with front and center seats and that certainly helped, but ds loved the performance, especially the fire dance, and honestly we really loved the food. there have been mixed reviews on the food, and i consider myself really picky, but everything was great that night. ds, who was 15 at the time, said it was one of the very best things we did there and he loves disney. we are actually doing it again next trip. i will say that where you sit would make a big difference in the impact of the show i think . good luck and hope this helped a little!

I asked about the Luau last year, and many told me that young kids get bored easily. So we will wait a few years for that. I would like to do Mickey BYBBQ, but it is only held certain days of the week.
