Last year we did the Hoop Dee Doo with my kids (then 8 and 3) and both loved it. This year we are thinking about trying the luau. What are your opinions? How does it compare to the Hoop Dee Doo?

The only bad thing about the luau is that if it rains, the luau will be canceled and you'll have some very disappointed children. Definitely don't do Mickey's Backyard BBQ! I was super disappointed. We have friends, who went with two other families, and none of them liked it either. We went to the Hoop Dee Doo this year and thoroughly enjoyed it so much so that we are going back again in June, 2007.

Hope this helps, Lisa

We've never done Hoop De Doo, but we really enjoyed what we saw of the Spirit of Aloha show. Our show was one of the ones rained out, however, we did see about 15 mins. of the show, had the full dinner, beverages included and got a 100% reimbursement so we can't complain! Yes, we were disappointed, but we felt it was fair, and had enough to get the flavor of the whole experience. You will get a lot of mixed reviews, but we really liked it and would say go for it!

We did the luau on our Trip to Disney last year and loved it!

We had great seats for the luau and loved the whole thing. We had terrible seats (second floor facing the wall) for HDD and hated it. Although the food at the HDD was better, we enjoyed the luau's overall experience more.

We did the luau this August and didn't like it at all. The show except for the native dancing was terrible, very bad overacting and lousy storyline. The actual dancing was great but getting to it was painful. My 8 yr old only enjoyed the dancers but was restless up to they started doing the island dances. A family with younger kids at the next table left about 1/2 way through the show their little ones were completely uninterested. The food was ok not as good as HDDR. Now HDDR we loved and the kids said they would do that again but never the luau.

When are you going? When we went in January, the show was cancelled all week because it was too cold (nights were around 50-60 the whole time.) We were able to get a new reservation (at CRT :cool1: ) but I had planned for the luau show and so did my parents and sister who met us in WDW. I just prefer to be prepared and trying to find a reservation was not my idea of fun- I took care of that long before I left!
