When I pitched the idea of this dinner show to my husband he said it sounded great.

Then I read the menu - TOTALLY NOT WORTH 100+ dollars in my opinion. As with most things - the food is clearly not what you pay for here.

So my questions are:

What's the show like
Is it worth the $$
What's the food like?

I am having the hardest time finding Disney restaurants that offer decent chicken dishes. Sorry but I'm not paying 21 bucks for roasted chicken. And I don't eat dead cow, deer, duck, or any other animal that is NOT chicken.

And their chicken dish sounds great, as does the chicken at Hollywood and Vine.

So please tell me if I should add this to our trip.

We went to the Spirit of Aloha Luau on July 2nd. Although a little corny, we enjoyed this show better than the previous show. Especially my DS (5yo). Kids were asked to go up on stage to learn the hula and they added a rendition of Hawiian Roller Coaster Ride (from Lilo and Sticth). I think they should also add an appearance by Lilo and Stitch. As for the food, the salad, chicken and ribs were tasty. The volcano dessert, a cake with white chocolate moose and raspberry sause was delicious. It's a hefty price for what you get but I am glad we did it once. I won't be adding it to future trips for a while though. :D

I agree that it is expensive. We just went in June and found the food mediocre. The show was a bunch of Polynesian dances with different costumes. The fire dance guy was terrific. They do allow kids, birthday celebrants and those celebrating anniversaries on stage for a couple of songs. We were expecting a show with Lilo and Stitch, but they were not present at all. I had read that they were in this new and improved version of the luau and that is why we decided to go. If you are a big fan of Polynesian culture as it is expressed in dance, you will enjoy yourself. But, don't go for the food experience. It reminded me of convention food. Try Ohana's or Kona for a bit of Polynesian flavor.

We were there the 2nd as well. Although I enjoyed the change in the show overall I was disappointed:mad: We go every trip but this was the last. There used to be much more of a personal touch and cultural experience IMHO. My daughter is 16 now but here she is at the preshow 6 or 7 years ago:

In years past you could get there alittle early and they'd dress the kids up in these grass skirts, make them little grass friendship braclets and tattoo the guys faces like the New Zeland natives. They also had a little drink stand on the upper deck so you could get a Mai Tai or soda before the show. Now they just heard you in and out like cattle. I was told I'd have to hike back to the longe in the Poly for a before dinner drink.

Now the Hoop-dee-Doo on the other hand is the same old fun show and they extend 20% discounts for the 9:30 show. (Fried chicken.)

Try lunch at the Marekesh in Morrocco for Lemon Chicken or kibobs and I'm sure the DH will enjoy it too:

Welcome to DIS!

The thing to remember about Disney dinner shows is that you are really paying for the show :). The food is usually not as good as you you would get for the same price at another Disney restaurant. I thought the food was OK last December, but I eat just about anything that isn't nailed down, including all the critters that you mention, plus some ;). The show was nice. I enjoyed the dancing and the singing. The fire dancer was very handsome. Oh yes, the "free" beer was nice too, especially since we were staying at the Polynesian.
