My son and I are going on a quick trip to a Disney. We each have a 16 in suitcase that fits under the seat. At least they do every other airline we have flown. Will spirit try to hit us for carry on fees. They are the only items we are bringing on I'm considering it my personal item.

If it fits under the seat, you'll be fine; no extra charge. Check their website for dimensions just to be sure. If its too big, it will have to be checked or go in the overhead bin for a fee.

Can you possibly pack your stuff in a backpack or other soft-sided (squishable) bag? That's what I did when I flew last month. There was no way it wasn't going to fit under the seat. If for some reason it doesn't fit, they may make you put it in the overhead and charge you for a carry-on (which is the most expensive way they charge for a bag - at the airport; 24hrs + online is cheapest). I believe they qualify the personal item as a purse, briefcase, laptop, etc.

ETA - Haha, I just realized I used my backpack as my personal item!! No charge, it was just a regular backpack that I shoved under the seat in front of me. My flight was about half full..not sure if that had anything to do with it.

I'm gonna chicken out. I know it will fit under the seat but I don't want to get hit with a double whammy at the gate if they make me ram it in to a box because with wheels it is over 16 under 17
. We'll go for one suitcase checked

their personal bag measurement is 16x14x12. I acutally found a decent bag on e bags that size. we are doing 5 days , no kids so we can pack light and wash clothes if we need to. as long as it fits in the little square thing you are good :)

question... so I know I wont be able to go to Disney and not bring home a ton of stuff for my grandkids, and I wont be able to fit much in my little personal bag. If I buy like a tote bag or Disney shopping bag will that be considered a carry on on my way home??? I was thinking shipping stuff home but paying for a carry on one way would be cheaper I think

Having wheels is not a problem. My parents have only 2 airlines to fly out of their airport, one of them is spirit. They have these little wheeled bags that I call their mary poppins bags since it doesn't make sense the things they pull out of there. They do not get charged. Also, buy a soda or something in the terminal since it's more expensive for less on the plane.

A small tote bag would be fine to fit under the seat, just remember it has to fit or they will charge to put it in the overhead bin.

Yes. You get one free bag under the seat in front of you. There is no "free Disney shopping bag exemption".

lol , I know it wont be free, we already have 2 personal size duffle bags, question is if I brought things home and carried a large shopping bag I would have to list that on my return flight as a carry on correct? I am not a regular flyer, we usually do the long drive to Disney but this is a short trip

You get one free item that must fit under the seat in front of you. So since it sounds like that is the duffle bag, then yes you will be paying for the shopping bag. It will be cheaper to pay that in advance

Yes, definitely pay in advance. If you wait until you're at the boarding gate, Spirit will charge $100 for the shopping bag.

so we decided to take one huge suitcase so we can shove everything we bring home in there! after looking at the shipping fees it just makes more sense :) We have 5 grandkids that need to have a bunch of stuff when grammy and pop come home

If that one huge suitcase weighs more than 40 pounds it will cost you a lot of money. 40 pounds is not a lot of weight I I can get 40+ pounds in my 25 inch suitcase without really trying

we will each take our personal size bag too, I had to pay that overweight fee last time :( l'm just figuring out all the flying stuff , we usually drive :) a lot longer but so much easier!!
