Has anyone used Spirit Airlines out of Detroit? We usually fly from Buffalo on Southwest but as of right now there are no available cheap flights on the 21st of April when we want to leave. If I book and then the fare goes down can I cancel and rebook like with Southwest? I tried to find their cancellation policy but was unable. Any help would be great. Thanks.

we fly Spirit frequently to Myrtle Beach to see my parents and to the best on my knowledge you cannot rebook if rate drops. With that being said rates don't seem to fluctuate to much. Spirit is pretty good for the most part, but here we really only have Northwest as our other carrier to fly non-stop anywhere.

We fly Spirit often as well. They are great, we always choose to fly "spirit plus" which is their business class. It is very affordable and we find the extra money worth it. First class check in, first on the plane, first off, larger seats, snacks and generally better service. With that said, I will throw one caution out there. EVERY trip that we have taken with Spirit our plane times have changed. For the most part it is not by much, but can be as our upcoming trip to FLL has dramatically. They will get you on another flight, not just cancel you, but if you have to get somewhere ON TIME, I would say book with someone else. We are flying them for our cruise in March but we are flying in the day before so not as worried. Any questions, just let me know!

SPIRIT is ok. It's NO frills....NO snacks (you have to purchase them with a credit card...NO cash accepted on the plane) NO pillows NO blankets.

It's basic transportation. The drawback out of flying SPIRIT out of DTW is the nasty SMITH terminal. Once that disgusting terminal is replaced, things should improve. The baggage claim area for SPIRIT couldn't be worse in a third world nation.

You say that the prices don't seem to fluctuate too much? We are traveling from April 21 to May 4 and can book for $789.20 for 4. To me as a Canadian who pay around $175./ person in tax on every flight we book that seems good however, with SW we can usually fly for around $550.

If you had to chose between Spirit and Air Tran who would you pick? They are both the same price, both good flight times out of Detroit.
Thanks again your help is greatly appreciated.

I just booked our April flights with Spirit last night. We also got the $789 for 4 tickets. I had to play with the dates otherwise I was looking at $266 EACH!!! We have used them other times and had no problems. The worst part about them is the baggage claim area. I refer to it as a dungeon. The terminal itself isn't all that bad, granted a new one is necessary and much needed. We have found the crew friendly and have never had any customer service problems.

IMPORTANTFor flights departing February 10, 2007 and beyond, for each ticketed passenger, Spirit Airlines will transport one (1) bag as checked baggage free of charge and a second bag for $10. Additional bags will be allowed and charged according to the excess bag fee schedule.

I will agree that the smith terminal isnt real pleasant and the baggage claim area feels like a dungeon. But hey if it gets me to Disney and back at a great rate I have no complaints. The future revamp will be greatly welcomed. We chose spirit because of Spirit Plus.
