Spirit Airlines: Are prices really cheaper if you buy at airport?

I have heard really bad things about Spirit. Is it okay? Bad service, cramped planes, hidden fees, etc.

I hear people refusing to fly Spirit on principle because of all the extra fees but even with the fees I'm paying much less for a whole lot less hassle. The fees aren't hidden. You just have to do a little research. The planes can be cramped but I don't remember too much more room on any of the airlines recently. I am actually glad the seats don't recline I always hated it when the person in front of me did that.

Fees have nothing to do with it.... I refuse to fly due to the way they treat you when things go wrong. Just this week I saw poster on Trip Advisor. Her crew "timed" out due to mechanical issues. So instead of flying to Las Vegas on 12/26 for New Year's Sprint will now fly them there there on 1/2. LOL!

Spirit is good when things go right. And there are no hidden fees. Spirit is very upfront about their fees.

The American consumer is really funny about this kind of stuff. We object to being "nickled and dimed" with a $15 seat fee, a $28 checked bag fee and a $30 carry-on fee added to our $119 fare. We feel cheated and overburdened by all that. We feel much smarter and satisfied to buy a $209 ticket with no "hidden" fees. But we don't do the math to see that Sprit with all those fees totaled $192, obviously a lower cost than the other airline's $209 fare.

The above is just an example. But it illustrates an important point about the difference between our perceptions and reality (that added fees have to be bad).

It's also important to know that Spirit is definitely NOT always cheaper. I don't mean to imply that. It CAN be cheaper. It's important to do the math and compare.

I have only flown Spirit one other time (to Vegas from Hou). We had no problems. I am seriously considering flying them to Orlando this June because they are so much cheeper. I am just worried about things going wrong and being out of luck. I guess it's a risk I need to take for 200 per person round trip. That's a lot cheaper than I can get it anywhere else!

Duplicate... didn't realize it was an old thread coming back :)

No reason not to double post about Spirit's lousy service. I think it is perfectly fine for people to book Spirit if they want to gamble with their vacation just to save a few bucks. What I do not understand is the multiple posts from people complaining about how bad their trip was on Spirit. It like you didn't see the all the warnings???
