Spinoff: Cost aside, which resorts would you choose OVER "higher-grade" resorts?

Money wasn't supposed to be involved in this.
A coworker of my wife stays at GF, but for 3 nights, while we stay for 10 nights at Pop. While staying at Pop we spent an afternoon lounging at the GF quiet pool in our 'grungy sweaty' park clothes. I never felt out of place except in one shop on the second floor while looking at Tommy Bahama shirts and CMs made sure to keep an eye on me.

We have had tea at GF in our park outfits and sat next to a hugh guy in a tank top. I figured that would go badly, but it was fine. The only thing I find attractive about the GF is the monorail and the soap store. There are better beds at the Swan, there are better walking locations at BC or Contemporary (I prefer to walk places), and if I want to dine there I always can even if I stay off property. Other than Vicky and Al's I don't feel out of place anywhere in Disney.

It's interesting to see all of the commentary on the GF. I personally love it and feel like it has a certain ease about it, but I learned long ago that everyone gets different vibes from the various resorts. I mean, nobody seems to get how I can feel all of this warmth and Disney magic from the Contemporary when so many see cold sterility...or how the Poly does nothing for me. Everyone is different and it works well with Disney having so many options.

As for Llama's original question...I guess after bad stays at Yacht Club and Wilderness Lodge, I'd definitely look to mods like POR or CSR before booking either of those again and the Swan and Dolphin are always serious considerations.

I guess that's why so many of us are drawn to WDW...choices for all :)

(PS my 3X BC stays involved minor things like noise to no housekeeping for 2 days in a CL room to the CL staff scolding my DH for using his fingers to pick up something...when there were no serving utensils/forks laid out...sorry for the delay I've been off the boards.)

Yep Tink - I agree - that's one thing I've always loved about WDW (and Disney in general) - something for everyone!! And - :welcome: back! :)

I don't think there is any resort I would pick besides a deluxe resort for the sole reason that the other resorts (family suites at AoA exluded) all have exterior corridors. They just remind me of awful stays I had as a child at cheap motels and I can't get past that. I don't think I would feel comfortable opening the curtains either, and that would frustrate me as well. There are definitely other things I like about the deluxes, but I won't try a value or moderate for that reason.

If any of the moderate resorts had interior corridors I would love to give them a chance!
