Spinning makes DD sick -- which Disneyland rides do we need to skip?

We have to skip many spinning rides -- they make DD14 so dizzy she'll get sick for a day or more. At WDW, we have to avoid rides like Astro Orbiter, Primeval Whirl, and even the carousel. The Teacups are (sometimes) tolerable if we don't make them spin, and slower-moving rides like Dumbo and Aladdin's Carpets are OK. Star Tours makes me feel nauseous, but not her.

Are there any Disneyland-specific rides that are fast-spinning? How much do Mater's and Roger Rabbit spin?

I see these post every once in a while about the spinning rides being an issue for some.

Has anyone ever tried getting one of those patches to control nausea?
Here's a link to what I talking about. I know several people in our area with motion sickness when boating on the ocean use these patches. They say they work great!

I have trouble with spinny rides too. I won't do tea cups or lady bugs. I find the jerkyness (if that's even a word) bothers me, so I didn't enjoy Goofy's sky school or Roger Rabbit. I didn't like Mater's the first time, but the second time I looked at the track and figured out how to anticipate which way the tractor was going to swing, and I enjoyed it. I rode the silly symphony swings 3 times in a row at night with DD in the tandem swing and I was fine, but when I rode it in the daylight I felt sick when I got off.

I recently had trouble with an inner ear problem that has luckily cleared up. I asked my doctor what he recommended for motion sickness besides Gravol, which makes me drowsy, and he suggested the ear patch. DH has used them for fishing and says they work, but they're pretty expensive. I think one patch lasts 3 days.

The only ride that makes me dizzy/sick is the teacups and it feels awful when it happens yuck! I'll be the one taking pictures of my family riding around and around : )

I would also suggest that you avoid spinning on Buzz Lightyear Astro Blaster. The individual cars can spin, but you control if and when it spins (except the end when everyone rotates to face Zerg). So if she's prone to motion sickness, I would avoid rotating the car or let her control the rotation (I'm prone to motion sickness, but I've found that if I'm in control, I'm less sensitive).

It might depend on now sensitive she is, but I've also found the Dumbo and Astro Orbitor can make me feel slightly nauseous. I do okay if I stare at the ride vehicle or the center of the ride, but if I look outward, I don't feel so great by the end of the ride.

I would second the recommendation to avoid the Mad Tea Cups, Roger Rabbit's Car-Toon Spin, some of the things in Bug's Life Land, and Mater's Junkyard Jamboree.

Yeah, my motion sickness has gotten worse with age. Which is sad as the tea cups were my favorite! Oh well. If she can do the tea cups okay without spinning, she might be okay on Buzz and Roger Rabbit if you don't make the ride vehicle move. Ladybugs are akin to tea cups so while I would avoid, up to you if you want to try. Astro Blasters made me queasy. I've heard to avoid Goofy's Sky School but haven't tried it. I will also admit that even Soarin' can start turning me green. I will say that I had no problems with Mater surprisingly but it is jerky. It's not so much spinny as it slaps you from side to side.

I cannot do spinning rides, either. Having said that, I did manage to do Dumbo and Astro Orbiter when I took DD5 on her first trip to Disneyland by myself thanks to my Relief Band. Which is kind of like a pressure wrist band but with electrical impulses.

Anyway, I am able to do both Roger Rabbit and Buzz Lightyear, but like someone else suggested, I am always in control of the car. Neither one of those rides spins much unless you make them, and being in control of the motion definitely helps.

One ride that I couldn't do even with my Relief Band on high was Space Mountain. It doesn't spin but there's just something about not being able to anticipate the motion changes in the dark that REALLY got to me. I couldn't get off it fast enough and I'm fine on other roller coasters.

Thanks, all, for the tips. We're WDW vets, so I know she'll be fine on Buzz, Space, Soarin, and Dumbo. Jerky or rough rides don't bother her - it's just a fast or continuous spin that's the problem. (Dumbo is slow enough that it doesn't bother her.) Intermittent spinning or spinning without fully rotating like Buzz is ok, if that makes sense. I think we'll definitely be skipping the Ladybugs and the swings.

Based on the comments, it sounds like Mater and Roger Rabbit might be an option, if they don't spin constantly or make full circles. Is that the case with those two rides? I think I read on Touring Plans that Roger Rabbit only spins if you make it, but I'd love to get confirmation on that here on the boards. Thanks!

I'd stay away from Flick's Flyers in DCA. I don't know what it is about those silly Chinese food boxes but I'm prone to motion sickness and that ride makes me sick every time.

We saw several people get sick on the swinging cars on mickeys Fun Wheel. We chose a stationary car and were fine ( we are both prone to motion sickness on Astro Orbiter, tea cups etc). One poor lady jumped out of the swinging car on the Fun Wheel and put her entire head directly inside the trash can on the platform. Don't want your DD to experience that!

I wouldn't suggest Mater's... You are constantly spinning on that ride, the spins are just interrupted by movement in the other direction. It makes my mother queasy. The great thing is that you can take a look at the ride for yourself! If it looks doable, try it it is a fun ride!

I don't remember for certain, but I think Roger Rabbit does spin you at times whether you want to not. The last time I rode it, my car mate did his best to keep the car facing one way, but there are points when the ride will make you spin around (e.g., to replicate hitting the "dip") and I left the ride feeling nauseous.

It does. I get vertigo very easily, and I recall being on the ride last year. I told my friend to stop spinning the car, which he wasn't, and realized the car was spinning us itself. It's not like the teacups, but enough to have made me feel nauseated and headachy when I walked off the ride. So even a little sensitivity will mess up your head if you get sick from any ride that spins.

WDW vet here. Can't help much on the Disneyland stuff but general tips...

From experience... if you want to try RXN strength meds for nausea make sure to do a test run at home. (Merry go rounds in malls often have a teacup on them some even have those flight simulator things like star tours.)

That way you can go on your trip with confidence knowing how your body reacts. Also if you are like me and discover that instead of helping, the anti nausea meds have an opposite effect you don't have to figure that out ON the trip. (I learned this last bit the hard way!)
