Every year we try to get a new Christmas CD.

My favourites so far are:

Winter Song - Sarah McLachlan
Winter Solstice series - Wyndham Hill productions
Christmas Album - Barra McNeill's (very Celtic)
Vienna Noel 3 - with Placido Domingo, Charles Aznavour & Sissel
Noel - Josh Groban

I have many more but those are my favourites because I like the whole album not just a few songs on the album.

What are your favourites?

Hey great thread  I have Mickey's Christmas Carol love it! Also have WOW christmas music , it's a very good mixture of holiday music.

Do They Know It's Christmas? - Band Aid
Happy Christmas (War Is Over) - John Lennon
Peace on Earth/Little Drummer Boy - Bing Crosby and David Bowie
Carol of the Bells - This Ascension
The Nutcracker Suite
...then various stuff from Trans-Siberian Orchestra and some from the Twisted Christmas CDs...

Any of Mannheim Steamroller's holiday albums - LOVE them
Disney's Season of Song
Rocky Mountain Christmas by John Denver (all except for the horrifyingly bad "Please Daddy Don't Get Drunk This Christmas" track.... which absolutely REEKS).
Handel's Messiah by the Mormon Tabernacle Choir
The Nutcracker, by any really good, big orchestra
A Christmas Together by John Denver and the Muppets - Animal's rendition of "Run, Run Rudolph" is priceless! "Where the River Meets the Sea" is one of my favorite Xmas songs ever.

And, of course, my Candlelight Processional soundtrack. :)

Christmas does not officially begin until I listen to this album.

:thumbsup2:lovestruc:cloud9::santa:

Merry Christmas Baby - Christina Algueilera's rendition
Marshmellow World - Dean Martin
Rock'n around the christmas tree
run, run rudolph
christmas song - billy squier

My absolute favorite is Mary's Boy Child by Harry Belefonte. I pretty much listen to everything though. I have the Time-Life Treasury of Christmas and it has all the good old Christmas songs on there. I also LOVE the Mormon Tabernacle Choir's CD's.

My all time favorite Christmas CD is Vince Gill's "Let There Be Peace On Earth".

Vince Gill has the voice of an angel and the guitar tracks are fabulous. He sings the title song with his daughter and it is beautiful. :thumbsup2

I don't know if this is your style, but any of the Cambridge Singers' Christmas albums are absolutely, stunningly beautiful. They are a 29-voice classical choir, who sings acapella and sometimes with orchestra.

My only hesitation in recommending it is that there will probably be a few "unfamiliar" Christmas songs on there to the average American, because they do sing a lot of English carols and classical Christmas pieces (for example, they have a beautiful arrangement of Victoria's "O Magnum Mysterium," but most people wouldn't know it).

Check out a song or two on Youtube or iTunes - if you like "What Child is This," take a look at that one, or for something more upbeat, try their version of "Hark, the Herald Angels Sing."

Manheim Steamroller
Trans-Siberian Orchestra
The Waltons

I also like celebrity singers that do Christmas albums that don't have all the traditional stuff, but new songs that we don't hear all the time. Not that I don't like the traditional stuff, but I just enjoy new songs written by the singers themselves.

Yes, I really like this album as well.

My favourite version of Silent Night is from Vienna Noel 3. Sung by Sissel, a Norwegian pop singer, with the most pure voice I have ever heard.

Here is a link on youTube. The choir sings first and then Sissel. Worth a listen.
