Woohoo. First, called around and found a better rate on auto insurance, saving about $400 for the year. Second, called DirecTV and negotiated a new deal that will chop about $400 of that bill for the year, plus give me some movie channels for free for a few months.

Ahhhh. Now I'll have money for my health insurance premium, which we've been advised will likely go up about 20%. Savings are so short-lived.

:cool1:nice! Isn't it funny how the savings instantly finds another place to go?:cool1:

Go you that's great, we do this yearly. Keeps my bills lower.

well, rats. Too bad you can't keep it and add to your Disney fund!

OP, with DirecTV, were you under a contract when you called? Reason I ask, our bill is ridiculous for the few channels we watch and I mentioned to DH that maybe we should cancel it. He said we couldn't cancel or renegotiate it because we have 1 year left on our current contract. I was pretty bummed about that.

But, :cheer2: to you for knocking so much off your budget!!

Call Directv, their CS is great. I would call and ask about any deals for current subscribers and would get at least $10 off for so many months and free channels. Some times I got a better deal, but I was happy with anything.

We are under a new contract with directv. Resigned in the spring to get the genie. I prices out comcast and dish new customer promotion then called directv and spoke with retention department to inquire about cost of ending contract early (knowing I had no intention of actually canceling). Cs was great and lowered my bill by over $30 a month.

I must say directv is one of the easiest companies I have dealt with. Last year my dh really wanted nfl Sunday ticket and they were offering it free to new customers. I called and asked what they could do for a long time customer. They gave it to me for $100 but then gave me $100 in bill credits over 4 months to make up for it. Always always ask. They aim to please.

When I was in nursing school I was on scholarships & grants so every quarter I would get reimbursement checks for the remainder after books & stuff were purchased. And wouldn't you know, my car at the time always had some sort of breakdown that would manage to eat up most of the check!! :rotfl:

I always wondered how it knew!?!?!? :confused3

Thanks for the reminder on this. I've got AT&T Uverse and my bill is getting ready to go up again, I need to be prepared to call and see if there's anything I can do.
