Specific Room Request

Newbie question here...

I've read a lot of posts referring to specific rooms (room number) at the different resorts. How do you go about requesting/securing a specific room number? Is this done through MS when you make your initial reservation, or does it have to be done at check-in? Still learning the ropes and looking forward to our first DVC trip.

You do so through MS. Remember it is a request nothing more.

Personally, I would never request a specific room. Your room assignment is based on availability at the time of check in. If you request a specific room and it is not available you are out of luck.

I have always had the most success requesting a particular view, floor or building. I usually make a request for something like "Upper Floor", "Buildings 23-26", "Near Elevator", "Congress Park", or similar...depending on what resort I am visiting. Sometimes I request more than one, like "Buildings 23-26, Upper Floor". So far I have been very lucky in having my request met.

I don't know what the odds would be but do you really think that with all of the rooms in the resort, someone will be checking out of the room you want on the day that you check in? Plus you are at the mercy of the room assigning software and the CM who does the room assignments.

You would stand a better chance if you broaden your request.

I agree, when you ask for specific room you are really limiting your choices of getting anything you really would like to have.

I suppose my question was a bit mis-worded. But the answers you all provided were very useful.

We are staying at BLT and I've noticed a thread showing pirctures and reviews of the various views. We'd prefer to be on the side that somewhat faces the MK (we are waitlisted for MK view, for now can only get a lake view) and would prefer to be higher up. Specific room isnt so important, just prefer a certain section of the resort. We have a reservation for a Lake view right now already. Does that mean that a room has already been assigned?

The main question has been answered... that it is done through MS. Thanks everyone for the help!

The even numbered rooms are on the outer curve of BLT, so you could ask for an even numbered room on a higher floor. It worked for us during our trip last week. I had called MS a couple weeks prior with the request and mentioned it again at check-in. We had a lake view room with a perfect view of MK!
