Anybody doing any yard work yet?

I've got two flower beds in full swing, started another today by planting 75 seedlings of Zinnea.

I also turned over a 3X10 area for a garden, and so far have a Better Boy tomato, Cherry Tonato's, three types of peppers, some Basil, and Cat nip going.

I also started some seeds today for Sunflowers and Hollyhocks.

Anyone else into gardening?

PS For those of you who dont know me, my yard is old cow pasture, and is about 85% cow manure! This is my first summer in this house, so I'm kind of excited! Every other yard I have had down here in Florida was sand!

We ripped out a lot of overgrown landscape here about 2 years ago, just in time for a drought to set in. We need new landscaping, but without the ability to water it, we just haven't seen fit to spend the money on the plants, just to have them die on us. It sounds like you have been doing your best to pretty up the new place. I wish you luck!

There are some very nice drought tolerant plants out there! Dont let the lack of rain stop you! Remember, the yard is the first thing people see! (Including you when you come home from work)

Well I for one am envious, this is my first year starting container gardening.... I'm a little afraid how it might go, but I really want to make a go of it

Does buying seeds count? If so, I have!!!!!

It's still a bit cold here in PA to start planting them jsut yet, but I hope to soon. We have some landscaped areas (we didn't do, the previous owners did) that come up every year, but since we didn't plant them I'm not sure what are weeds and what are planted stuff!!!!

We will be planting some grass in the back yard..the dogs have turned it into a mud pit over the winter!

We have some things to plant. We love having our garden look nice, but it's really hard with the lousy soil. I envy you your cow pasture O'Mike!

We have one side of the house in shade and almost constantly damp. We are looking for some plants that will grow there and help soak up some of the wet. Haven't found anything we like yet.

We have roses along one side of our driveway. I'm hoping to plant forget me nots in a little patch near the entry walkway.

We have tried herb container gardening and constantly kill the poor things. They need loads of water here in Florida.

We have plumeria in pots and an impossible to kill pony tail palm in a pot.

I don't do yard work, I don't like to sweat.
You go by our yard and you would never know two gay guys live their.
So when your done with yours you can start mine.

Too stinkin' cold here to even think about planting anything yet. We had a lot of success with tomatoes, cucumbers, basil, oregano and peppers in containers on the deck last year. Every time I plant something in the actual yard, it gets eaten by the squirrels/chipmunks/raccoons. Oy.

I am thinking about getting some of those upside down hanging tomato planter thingys (yes, that is the technical term)... Anyone have any experience with them?

I own an apartment building and live on the first floor... we have a large L shaped deck but it does not have stairs to the yard... So I have to do any and all gardening on my deck b/c I am too lazy to run in and out of the house....

I've wondered about those tomato things myself, let us know how it works.

My best luck with container gardening has been with herbs. Love me some fresh Basil and Cilantro!

Still too cold around here but DP is usually the yard work girl. She is 6 months pregnant....I guess it is my job this year. Holy Cow! All I am usually in charge of is picking up dog droppings.

I need to weed my flower beds... and landscaping and get it mulched...

My garden is turned.... and 1/2 planted. Its appx 25X 40ish. So far I have out greens, lettuce, onions, carrots, potatoes, asparagus, kale, etc.

Its too early here for tomatoes, squash, beans, peas, zucchini, etc.... its all germinating in my flats in the dining room under the window.

We also have chickens!!! We got 8 chicks and we are watching them grow feathers. They change so much each day. We are going to purchase some hens and also some eggs to incubate.

What are flowers and plants?

I have 4 houseplants all of which are dying.

We have no yard since we live in a loft. Which I'm so thankful for since I absolutely HATE any sort of yardwork or anything involving dirt.

It's way too early to start anything up here - usually at the end of May we start planting. I keep looking at the Burpee catalogue but that's as far as I've gotten.

Check out Earthboxes (www.earthbox.com). I was travelling a lot for work and couldn't keep up on my vegetable garden so I bought some of these and put them on my patio, they work great! I even bought one for my Mom last year and she loves it.
