Speaking of Lifeboats??

I tell my DD12 and DS13, over and over again, that if the emergency horn blows they should get to our cabin immediately. That would be our first meeting place in order to get our life jackets. And if for some reason they cannot get to our cabin, go directly to the life boats on deck 5. This is a concern when your children are old enough to wander around the ship with thier friends. Studies have shown that if children are trained in what to do in an emergency they will automatically react properly. I can only hope that if that horn blows they will think "get to our cabin".

This is all a very unlikely scenario!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I promise you won't be thinking about all this while on board.

The Titanic had a huge number of problems ranging from insufficient lifeboats, undertrained crew, over crowed steerage and icebergs in icey water.

The iceberg they hit, scraped along one side slicing a gash in many water tight compartments, not just one.

The ship also has - i think sonar - that projects a beam somehting like 46 miles and maps exactly, visibly on a screen- the size and shape of any potential obstacle. Assuming there WERE an iceberg in the warm Bahamian waters, the sonar would see it in plenty of time to avoid it.

Of course they also have loran, satelitte positioning, and ever other wizard gadget you ever heard of and some you didn't.
