Speaking of impulse buying..

Went to the bank today and decided to swing buy Walmart on the way home. I planned to check out their clearance flowers (we have a few flowerpots that are empty outside and our garden bed is pretty bare since my seed sprouting didn't go as planned), buy a can of spray paint, and price a few other items that I am hoping to get in the future...

I left there with 4 cucumber plants, 4 vinca plants, 2 red pepper plants, 1 mystery flower, and 1 can of spray paint. Not bad...

But THEN, I also got 2 sheets of butterfly wall clings (for the girls' bedroom), a package of 4 ft bamboo stakes (for a couple of droopy/tall indoor plants and tomato plants outside), a bottle of Gatorade (for my son), and a 3 piece folding bistro set for my deck...

Yep, I bought outdoor furniture on impulse! :confused3

To be fair, I had been in dire need of some sort of outdoor seating, I love the color, that it folds for winter storage, and.. it was only $25! Regularly $68! Total cost for everything was $48. I had planned to spend around $20. I am alternating between feeling guilty for going over my budget and being excited that I found something I really like for the deck at such a good price!

Needless to say, I gave my front and backyard a little facelift and the wall clings give my girls' room a little extra pizazz. The spray paint will be used to give a facelift to a few other things as well.

Anyhoo.. it looks like stores are starting to mark down their outdoor stuff, so check it out for some good deals! :)

Your trip doesn't sound too impulsive to me...you got all of your items for less than the regular price of the bistro set! ;)

You knew in your mind you wanted something for the deck and happened to stumble upon a great deal so you went for it!

I always check out the clearance plants and usually once I'll find something good. Last year I bought a potted bell pepper plant w/ trellis for I think $4.00 and it had 3 plants in it. Yay! This year they had Calibrachoa on clearance (they are the little mini petunia plants that trail and bloom like crazy) for $1.50 each (normally $3 everywhere) and they were huge and not distressed at all. I guess perhaps they had too many of them or something. They are one of my favorite annuals.

Your purchases seem pretty good to me. 3 weeks ago we also made an impulse purchase on a 3 piece bistro set at Costco. It cost $379. That place sucks me in every time. Everything seems like a great deal there.

Hey it could be worse. One time I sent my ex to Target to get some new socks and underwear and he came home with a big screen tv.

But did he get the socks and underwear? And is that why he is your ex? LOL

I didn't get to plant the pots on my deck in May like I wanted to due to some unexpected car expenses. Come mid June I started to look for plants. I found big color bowls on clearance at Lowes. They were filled with Calibrachoa and Silver Mist (tiny white flowers). I bought all they had at $3 each, plus 2 pots of $3 clearance crazy Juncus grass (twisty looking grass). I also used some transplanted vinca that survived the winter. So for $36 I have 12 huge terra cotta pots filled with plants that look professionally arranged!

No! That's why I was even more angry because okay, it was his money to buy the TV, but he didn't even get the stuff I asked for :rotfl: And it's one of the reasons he is, but the rest aren't really appropriate for the board. :rolleyes1

I am on vacation this week and I went in a few stores like Shopko and Walmart and I noticed too the markdowns in the garden sections. I saw a 3 piece Bistro set marked down to $60 with another 25% off. I passed because I was going to buy it for my dd apartment patio. I try to be a backwards shopper and get seasonal things on clearance, but it kills me too spending money.
